Blindfolded speedcuber solves Rubik's cube in 11.56 seconds

A champion speedcuber reclaimed a Guinness World Records title by solving a Rubik's cube in 11.56 seconds while wearing a blindfold.

Tommy Cherry, 21, retook the title for the fastest time to solve a 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cube while blindfolded when he completed the task in 11.56 seconds at the Mid-Atlantic Quiet Championship 2026 event in Branchburg, N.J., on June 28.

He first set the record at 15.27 seconds in 2021, and has broken the record almost every year since. The most recent record of 11.67 seconds was set by Australian Charlie Eggins at the Cubing at The Cube 2026 event in Sydney, Australia, on Jan. 10.

Cherry and Eggins are currently co-holders of the title for the fastest average time to solve a 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cube while blindfolded, with both competitors achieving a time of 14.05 seconds.

"This most recent record of mine is my first one since 2024, so I am ecstatic to finally improve again and hope to keep it going for as long as I can," Cherry said.

Canadian drag show featuring RuPaul breaks Guinness World Record

A drag show at the Cowboys Music Festival in Alberta broke a Guinness World Record with 7,423 attendees — including RuPaul.

The "Drag Me to Cowboys" show on July 11 featured drag performers including RuPaul, Sasha Velour, Sasha Colby, Nearah Nuff, Roxxy Andrews and Coco Montrose.

The festival, which marked its 30th anniversary this year, broke the Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a drag artist stage show. Guinness World Records Adjudicator Tina Shi remotely reviewed the event and used specialized software to confirm there were 7,423 people in attendance.

"It shows that queerness is celebrated and welcome in Alberta," Farrah Nuff, who hosted the show, told the Calgary Herald. "It shows that on the biggest stages and in the biggest celebrations in Canada and Alberta, that queerness is absolutely a vibrant part of our communities."

'Wild cat' on the loose in Ohio turns out to be Savannah cat

Ohio police dispatched on a report of a "wild cat" on the loose ended up helping to recapture a resident's escaped Savannah cat.

Olmsted Township Police said officers responded to a report of a "wild cat" in a residential area on Thursday.

"Upon further investigation, it was determined the animal was a domesticated Savannah cat that had escaped from its owner," police said in a news release.

Savannah cats are hybrids of domestic cats and African servals.

The feline fled into a wooded area in Lorain County and was located by its owner, who as accompanied by police and sheriff's deputies.

"Multiple attempts were made to safely capture the animal using a snare; however, those efforts were unsuccessful," police wrote. "The animal was finally captured and returned to its owner for veterinary care."

Overdue library book found bricked into fireplace after 150 years

An Australian library received an unusual return when a book checked out about 150 years ago was found bricked into the fireplace of a home.

The Kiama Library in New South Wales said on social media that a family returned the book during the weekend after a home renovation projected led to it being discovered in a tea desk that had been bricked into the house's fireplace.

The book, The Antiquities of Athens, was published in 1858 and dates back to when the Kiama Public Library was housed at the old Kiama School of Arts, between 1872 and 1890. The exact date the book was borrowed has been lost to time, but officials estimate it was likely about 150 years ago.

The library said the tome would have accrued late fees of nearly $20,000 under the bylaws at the time it was borrowed, but the library has since done away with all overdue fines.

The book, said to be in "remarkably good condition," will not be placed back into circulation, but will instead be displayed in the library's collection of significant items.

Idaho family breaks world record for Hungry Hungry Hippos

A serial Guinness World Record breaker from Idaho teamed up with his family to earn a record for a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos — and earned his 200th concurrent title in the process.

David Rush enlisted the help of his wife, Jennifer, and his sons, Jeremy and Peter, to tackle the title for the fastest time to clear a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos by a team of four, with a time to beat of 4.833 seconds.

"You must use an unmodified, licensed game on a flat table. Your hands start flat. Most critically, you are only allowed to use one finger to trigger your hippo. Swap fingers and the attempt is dead. Drop a ball off the edge and you start over," Rush wrote online.

The family managed the feat with a time of 3.75 seconds, and their November 2025 accomplishment has now been officially certified by Guinness World Records.

Rush said the record marked his 200th concurrently-held Guinness World Records title, making him only the third person in history to achieve the feat.

Florida teen becomes world's youngest college professor at 18

An engineering prodigy who started college at the age of 10 became the youngest college professor of all time at the age of 18.

Guinness World Records confirmed Nathan Thomas, who is now 21, was 18 years and 346 days old when he started teaching at Florida's Miami Dade College in August 2023.

He took the record for the youngest professor (male) ever, a record that had been held for 306 years Colin Maclaurin, who was 19 when he became a professor.

Thomas was also 16 days younger than Alia Sabur was when she claimed the title for the youngest professor (female) in 2008, at the age of 18 years and 362 days.

Thomas dual-enrolled at Miami Dade College when he was 10 years old, and transferred to Florida International University at the age of 14.

By the age of 18, he had earned his masters degree in electrical engineering.

Thomas is now teaching online courses while he pursues a juris doctor degree at the University of Miami School of Law, where he is expected to graduate in 2028. He said he plans to work in intellectual property law, with a focus on STEM.

"Engineering taught me how to break down complex problems in a structured way, and that's carried over into how I approach law school now," he told Guinness World Records.

Florida steakhouse touts clothing-optional 'Nude Dining Experience'

A Florida restaurant is inviting guests to disrobe on the first Monday of every month for a "Nude Dining Experience."

Maurad Ali, chef and owner of the C.L.A.S.S. Soiree Steakhouse in Hollywood, came up with the idea of the monthly event as a means of attracting attention to the eatery in an unusual way.

"As a restaurateur in this rough environment, we have to be remarkable, and remarkable means people are talking," Ali told Axios.

The chef said the servers, who remain clothed in their usual attire during the private dinners, have been trained to be respectful of unclothed customers.

"I'm the chef and owner, my crew, we are all professionals," Ali told WPLG-TV.

Tickets for the dinners cost $250 for men, $150 for women or $300 for couples. Special rules for the events include no admission to anyone under the age of 18 and no touching another person without consent.

"Once you walk through the door, I'll most likely be nude, no clothes on, so when you come in you do feel more comfortable," hostess Tashaeba Hart said.

Each diner will be given a robe, a soft towel and a seat cover, Ali said.

Joann Hussey, a spokesperson for the city of Hollywood, said the "Nude Dining Experience" dinners are perfectly legal, as they are billed as private events.

Capybaras wander into legislative building in Brazil

A video captured at a state legislative building in Brazil shows workers practicing their animal handling skills by ejecting some unusual trespassers: a pair of capybaras.

The video shows the two capybaras, the world's largest rodents, calmly wandering into the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso in Cuiabá and exploring the reception area while deputies prepared for a vote elsewhere in the building.

The capybaras were prevented from getting further into the building by security turnstiles.

The footage shows employees working to guide the famously sociable animals out of the building, where they were joined by a third capybara.

Employees said capybaras are sometimes spotted in the area due to the building's proximity to the Parque das Águas, which has a native population of the animals.

Indian woman's 8-foot, 10-inch hair breaks world record

An Indian woman who hasn't gotten her hair cut since 2015 earned the Guinness World Record when her long locks were measured at 8 feet and 10 inches in length.

Renu Dhariyal, a content creator who shares beauty tips on YouTube, was awarded the title for the longest hair on a living person (female). She took the record from Ukrainian Aliia Nasyrova, whose hair was measured at 8 feet and 5.3 inches long.

"I have been growing my hair continuously since 2015. In Indian culture, long hair is considered a symbol of extreme beauty and tradition, which is what inspired me to grow it so long," Dhariyal told Guinness World Records.

She said her hair requires a lot of maintenance.

"It takes a lot of patience to maintain long hair. I spend hours washing and detangling my hair," she said. "My secret is completely natural. I stay away from chemical products and also share the secrets of chemical-free homemade hair oils and homemade shampoos I make on my YouTube channel."

162-year-old bottle of Guinness from shipwreck might be drinkable

A diver who found a 162-year-old bottle of Guinness in a shipwreck off the coast of England contacted scientists who might be able to recreate the 1864 version of the stout.

Stefan Panis, an underwater photographer from Belgium, was exploring a shipwreck off the coast of Dover last year when he surfaced with an intact bottle of liquid.

Panis rinsed the bottle and discovered it was labeled "Guinness" and bore the year 1864.

He said the bottle came from what appeared to be a case of 24 — and there might be more cases in the area. Panis said he plans to return to the shipwreck when conditions allow to see if he can recover more bottles.

Scientists at KU Leuven University in Belgium are now looking into whether they can recreate the 162-year-old version of the beer.

"There is always a chance that we can recover the complete DNA, and then we can do a small re-brew of the exact beer that was found in the 1860s," Panis told the BBC.

He said the stout inside the bottle may even still be drinkable. Brewing historian Edward Bourke told him the bottle being stored upside-down may have prevented any seawater from entering.

Bourke explained the air bubbles caused when the bottle is upside down creates a pressurized seal.

"There is a possibility that it's still drinkable," Panis said. "The question is if the sea water has come into the bottles through the corks. If not, most likely the beer would still be drinkable."

Panis, who admitted he is not a big fan of Guinness, said he would be willing to sample the aged brew if it is found to be drinkable.

The discovery was celebrated by Diageo, the company that owns the Guinness brand.

"Discoveries like this provide a fascinating window into our past and help build a deeper understanding of our heritage," a spokesperson said. "Currently, our Guinness Archive team is liaising with the divers to gather more information and evaluate the find."
