Guinness World Records 2027: Narrowest car, most tattooed person

Guinness World Records celebrated the latest release of its annual book by announcing new records including the narrowest driveable car and the most tattooed person.

The record-keeping organization's Guinness World Records 2027 book is available now in stores, and the latest tome features dozens of newly-broken records, including daring stunts, feats of memory and huge collections.

"Last year, we set the world a challenge — Be Part of It — and I'm pleased to say that the world responded," Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief at Guinness World Records, said in a news release. "Our Records Managers have sifted through tens of thousands of applications from wannabe record breakers to bring you Guinness World Records 2027, a fully updated compendium of stats, facts, figures and photographs celebrating the most incredible achievements on Earth... and beyond."

Here are some of the new records found in Guinness World Records 2027.

Most tattooed person living (multiple layers) (male)

Ephemeral Remy got his first ink in 2005, and he has since covered 90% of the surface of his body in tattoos, and re-covered those areas with up to 40 layers of tattoos. He said some areas have even been tattooed more than 100 times.

"My friends and family would often read through the new Guinness World Records books when we were growing up, I spent the most time looking at the 'freaks of nature' and I am honored to go down in history as one of them," Remy said.

Narrowest driveable car

Italian Andrea Marazzi, 31, who makes his living in dismantling and recycling vehicles, rebuilt a Fiat Panda to measure just 19.76 inches wide. While the car is driveable, Marazzi said he only brings it out for fairs, events and controlled demonstrations.

"It means a lot because the car has made so many people smile. For me, the best part is that it is not only a technical achievement, but also a fun and positive project that people immediately understand and enjoy," Marazzi said.

Largest hairdryer

British engineer Ruth Amos hosts the YouTube channel "Kids Invent Stuff," where she and her team take ideas submitted by children and turn them into a reality. Amos, who previously built the world's largest electric toothbrush and the tallest 3D-printed plastic-brick Christmas tree, has now assembled the world's largest hairdryer.

Amos' functioning hairdryer measures 5 feet, 9 inches long and 5 feet, 3 inches tall.

Most decimal digits memorized underwater

German Christian Schafer, whose memory skills previously earned him a winning spot on the Guinness World Records - Die Grosse Show der Weltrekorden TV series, submerged himself in a pool to put his memory to another test.

Schafer studied a sequence of numbers underwater and was able to recount 87 of them.

Largest collection of frog related items

California woman Susan Burgos' love of frogs led to her having to purchase a second home with a big garage to store some of her 13,201 items, which include stuffed animals, toys, Christmas ornaments, housewares and clothes.

Burgos, who beat the previous record of 10,502, said her love of frogs started when she found a tiny tree frog in her kitchen in 1983. The encounter inspired her to buy the first item in her collection, a gold frog ring with emerald eyes.

Tallest horse

Hugo, a 4-year-old shire horse living in England, was officially named the tallest horse living when a veterinarian measured him at 6 feet and 6.3 inches tall.

The veterinarian had to measure Hugo three times without shoes on to verify his height.

Nova Scotia man solves 211 Rubik's cubes while on a pogo stick

A Nova Scotia man has achieved his longtime goal of making it into a Guinness World Records book by solving 211 Rubik's cubes while bouncing on a pogo stick.

Annapolis Royal resident Saul Hafting, 21, was 16 years old when he took on the record for the most rotating puzzle cubes solved while on a pogo stick in 2021.

His record of 211 cubes solved was approved in 2022, beating the previous record of 65, earning him a certificate and a spot on the Guinness World Records website, but no article in the organization's annual book.

"I was certainly not sure how long my record would stand," Hafting told the Annapolis Valley Register. "If it ever gets broken, I know that I held it for many years, which is very satisfying."

Hafting said it wasn't until earlier this year that he received an email from officials telling him he would be featured in Guinness World Records 2027, which is now available in stores.

"It's awesome," Hafting said. "I am very excited to get a copy of my own and flip through it and see my name in it."

Hafting said he is now looking forward to going on a media tour to promote the latest volume.

"I was very honored that they chose me," he said. "My record is very unique ... and quite the spectacle to see if I do a demonstration."

Mystery marmot drinks radiator fluid, winds up in San Francisco

Animal rescuers in San Francisco are trying to identify the origins of a mystery marmot believed to have hitched a ride to the city.

The Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue said on social media that the marmot, a rodent approximately the size of a house cat, was found this week in a Mission District backyard.

"Marmots are famous for climbing inside car undercarriages, drinking radiator fluid, passing out and waking up in far away weird places like San Francisco," the post said.

Lila Travis, founder and director of the rescue, said radiator fluid smells appealing to marmots.

"They have a missing electrolyte that they think is going to be satisfied by this radiator fluid, but it's not," Travis told KQED. "It just makes them sick. And they will sometimes be transported to strange places because of the car being driven off."

Marmots typically live in high elevations, so the rescue group is trying to determine whether anyone living nearby where the rodent was found recently returned from Lake Tahoe or Burning Man.

Travis said that information will help rescuers return the animal home.

"We're looking for someone who might recently have spent time in the alpine high Sierras — in marmot territory — and unwittingly brought this guy down. We just want to know where he came from originally, so that we can take him back to his family," she said.

Asian water monitor lizard fished out of Missouri storm drain

Animal control officers in Missouri became reptile wranglers for a day when a large monitor lizard was found trapped in a storm drain.

St. Louis County Animal Care and Control said the lizard, an Asian water monitor, was spotted in a storm drain alongside Niles Place in the southern part of the county on Tuesday.

The lizard was fished out of the drain and taken to the county's animal shelter on a stray hold. An employee with proper facilities for caring for large lizards is currently fostering the animal.

The lizard, dubbed Gojira by rescuers, was said to have a very friendly demeanor. He will be made available for adoption if no owners are identified after five days.

More than 100 people gather in San Francisco to scream at the ocean

More than 100 people gathered in San Francisco to release their frustrations by simultaneously screaming at the ocean.

The "Guttural Scream at the Sea" event, organized by local resident Danielle Egan, featured more than 100 people shouting into the Pacific Ocean on Saturday at Vista Del Mar, overlooking Ocean
Beach.

"I felt like I needed a really good scream, and I think it'd be more fun with other people. There's a lot of things to scream about in this day and age, so I figured we'd just get a lot of different people together and scream," Egan told SFGate.

A flyer for the event listed "many good reasons to scream," including "rent," frustrations with AI, unspecified "anger" and the fact that it "feels good."

The group scream was preceded by a screaming contest, where participants were judged based on the volume, length and style of their vocalizations.

Wisconsin woman recaptures world record for salt and pepper collection

A Wisconsin woman reclaimed a Guinness World Records title by amassing a collection of 754 matching pairs of salt and pepper packets.

Brookfield resident Linda Schulz, 67, first earned the title for the largest collection of salt and pepper packets in 2024, with a total 494 pairs of packets, but lost the record the following year to Salacnib "Sonny" Molina, whose collection was tallied at 594 pairs.

Schulz reclaimed her title this year with 754 pairs.

"I find collecting very interesting and fun," Schulz told Guinness World Records. "To have a goal of a Guinness World Records title makes this hobby even more fun and interesting!"

Schulz's collection began with a pair of packets from fast food chain Arby's. She said her favorites are a pair of Hawaiian shirt-themed packets from Hawaiian Airlines.

Nearly 230-foot Slim Jim breaks world record in Omaha

Conagra Brands unspooled a Slim Jim measuring 429 feet and 5.4 inches long in Nebraska to break the Guinness World Record for the longest meat snack.

The Slim Jim unveiled Sept. 9 at Conagra's Omaha campus was certified by a Guinness World Records adjudicator as 116 feet longer than the previous record-holder.

The "Blaze Crew" team who created the supersized Slim Jim said they took pains to ensure the record-breaking snack featured the same recipe and flavor as a standard-sized snack.

The Slim Jim started out coiled around a massive, rolling wire rack and was then unspooled to its full length on a line of tables assembled in the parking lot.

"The record-breaking Slim Jim is a testament to the creativity, expertise and dedication of our team," Jess Sweley, senior vice president of research & development at Conagra Brands, said in a news release. "Our people bring innovation to life every day, and we wanted to find a unique way to celebrate their passion. This record-breaking Slim Jim was a true labor of love for our group."

Painting purchased for $30 at estate sale expected to fetch up to $250k

A painting purchased for $30 from a Michigan estate sale is now expected to fetch up to $250,000 at auction after being confirmed as a lost work of Gertrude Abercrombie.

The painting, titled Alderman Merriam's Shells, was purchased by a treasure hunter at a Michigan estate sale for $30.

The buyer noted a name and date in the lower-left corner: "Abercrombie, '51."

The collector suspected the painting to be the work of Chicago surrealist Gertrude Abercrombie, a suspicion they confirmed when they spotted a photo of the painting in its original frame at the "Gertrude Abercrombie: The Whole World Is a Mystery" exhibition in Milwaukee.

The buyer asked Susan Weininger, an art historian at Roosevelt University and leading Abercombie expert, to look at the painting, and she authenticated it as a work the surrealist painted in 1951, depicting sea shells from the collection of Robert Merriam, a Chicago alderman from 1947 to 1955.

Experts determined the painting had been gifted to John Reynolds, a Kalamazoo, Mich., doctor, in exchange for a medical procedure in 1952. The painting remained with the family for about 75 years before being sold at the estate sale.

The painting is now set to go up for sale at auction house Freeman's. The artwork is expected to fetch $150,000-$250,000.

Five generations of Iowa family share a single birthday

An Iowa family is being recognized by Guinness World Records for an unusual distinction: five generations sharing the same birthday.

The record-keeping organization confirmed Fred Harlow and his family officially hold the record for the most generations born on the same day.

Harlow was born Sept. 14, sharing a birthday with his grandfather, Wilbur; his mother, Addie; his daughter, Emma Bell; and his grandson, Arthur.

"You know, when you have children yeah, they're a gift, this is a very unique gift," Harlow told KMTV. "We always thought it was pretty cool, but we never really — I never thought much of it as far as record holder. Just kind of figured everything happened for a reason."

Emma Bell said it was only after the birth of her son that they decided to obtain official certification. She had earlier learned the family could tie the record with four generations, but the birth of her second child on Sept. 14, 2025, put them ahead.

"I grew up with my grandma saying 'You have to have a boy on Sept. 14,'" she said. "Every year, is what she would say. I went early with my first, so I was bound and determined to make it our due date."

Arthur arrived right on time. Emma said her grandmother would be thrilled.

"I think she'd be pretty proud and pretty impressed that we actually made it happen and had it be a boy on the 14th," Emma said.

The family said there's one other aspect to their shared birthday that makes it extra special.

"It starts with Wilber, so it actually goes boy, girl, boy, girl, boy — the entire way through," Emma said.
