Lost dog found in Philadelphia after four years

A Wisconsin man drove across the country during a snowstorm to be reunited with the dog he lost four years ago in Philadelphia.

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philly said a dog was brought in as a stray earlier this month and scanned for a microchip.

The chip identified her as Cipi, a dog reported missing in the same area of the city four years earlier.

Leovigildo Ramirez, Cipi's owner, moved to Wisconsin a while after Cipi was lost. He made the 16-hour drive to Philadelphia during major snowstorms to bring Cipi home.

Ramirez said the pet ran off in 2022 while the family was bringing groceries into the house. He kept Cipi's microchip updated in the hopes that she would one day resurface.

"That was incredible," Ramirez told Fox 29 News of the reunion. "She is my best friend."

11-year-old juggler breaks world record using a pindaloo

An 11-year-old juggler from Wisconsin broke a Guinness World Record by using a pindaloo to make 51 rotations in under 30 seconds.

Caleb Hunter used his pindaloo — a u-shaped juggling tool that takes a ball in one hole and spits it out the other — to break the record for the most loops of a ball with a pindaloo in 30 seconds, in the under-16 category.

"It goes out the front, it loops over back towards you, and it lands in the one that you're holding," Hunter told WBKO-TV. "You have to keep the momentum, but it's also fun to like play with it, see how high you can get it, see how fast you can go."

He said breaking the record took a lot of practice.

"Every time I practiced I usually dropped the ball before the 30 seconds was over. The first time I did it I got it and the ball fell exactly after 30 seconds passed, so even if I did make it one more time it wouldn't have counted, so it was like perfect," he said.

The boy said he was inspired to attempt the record by his father, a former Guinness World Record-holder.

"My dad actually has a biking world record from biking 6 states in under 24-hours," he said. "It got broken, but it's still super cool, and I thought I wanted one too."

Punxsutawney Phil, Staten Island Chuck predict 6 more weeks of winter

Famed Pennsylvania groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow Monday morning, predicting six more weeks of winter.

Phil was pulled from his burrow Monday morning at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney and his prognostications were interpreted by a man in a tuxedo and top hat in front of a crowd of thousands of onlookers.

The man revealed Phil had seen his shadow, predicting winter will last another six weeks.

A study released by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 2025 revealed Phil has had an accuracy rate of only about 35% in the past couple decades.

Michigan teacher earns Guinness World Record for 67-year career

A 90-year-old English teacher in Michigan was awarded a Guinness World Record for her 67-year career in the classroom.

Beverly Hannett-Price, who teaches English at Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, was presented with her Guinness World Records certificate for the longest career as a language teacher (female) Monday at a surprise assembly convened in her honor.

Guest speakers at the ceremony included Courtney B. Vance, a former student who went on to become a Tony and Emmy-winning actor.

"She really taught me how to write and to put wonderful thoughts together, and because of that, we've stayed in touch," Vance told WXYZ-TV.

Hannett-Price, who started teaching in 1958, also counts actor Robin Williams and former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer among her former pupils.

"I have no plans for retirement. I love this school. I love teaching," Hannett-Price said at the ceremony.

150-year-old bottle of alcohol found in Utah, tasted by experts

An archaeological team in Utah exhumed a bottle of alcohol estimated to be 150 years old — and experts gave it a taste test.

Ian Wright, Utah's state public archaeologist, said the bottle was among thousands of artifacts dating back to approximately 1870-1890 found on U.S. Forest Service land used by Alta ski resort.

"When they picked it up, it was still full. It still had a cork in it," Wright told The Park Record. "We realized, 'Oh my gosh, this is a real treasure.'"

Wright said the find is the only known intact bottle of alcohol to be found from the time period.

"They sometimes find them in Missouri and in places where the Mississippi has shifted and there's been a sunken boat or a ship, but never in Utah," he said. "We rarely find a bottle with a cork at all. Or if we do find one, the corks shriveled up and shrunk it inside of it, or just fragments of it. So that's pretty rare."

Wright's team enlisted the help of High West, Utah's oldest legal distillery, to analyze the bottle's contents.

The nearby Old Town Cellars provided a Coravin device to extract some of the liquid without damaging the cork.

Isaac Winter, director of distilling at High West, was the first to taste the liquid.

"I had a little bit of trepidation going into it, but you have to try it," Winter told FOX 13 Utah. "It didn't smell like gasoline, didn't smell like tobacco spit."

He said the flavor is "fruity, there's a little bit of leather, there's quite a bit of age on it."

Tara Lindley, director of sensory and product development at High West, said the flavors were complex.

"First, there was some kind of a, kind of an oxidized fruit note," Lindley said.

The experts said the liquid appears to be a low-alcohol beer, rather than liquor. They are now hoping to recreate the beverage.

"The very bottom of the bottle was sort of turbid — it was sort of milky. We're going to take that back and hopefully plate it out and find some usable yeast on it," Winter said.

Lost ring found after 44 years buried on Mississippi beach

A Mississippi man who lost his class ring during a trip to the beach in 1982 was reunited with the treasured item 44 years later.

Darien Ladner said he lost his Pass Christian High School class ring while attending a party at Pass Christian beach with some friends during his senior year of high school.

"I searched and searched but could not find it," Ladner wrote on social media.

Ladner said he even returned to the beach with an assistant principal who offered to search with his metal detector, but they had no luck.

Ladner received a Facebook message earlier this week from Sammy Jewell, who told Ladner he had found the ring while treasure hunting with his metal detector at the beach.

"Whenever I got the message Monday morning, I was ecstatic, I couldn't believe it, because it's been 44 years," Ladner told WLOX-TV.

He was amazed to learn the ring had been found in the same spot where he lost it.

"From the time I lost it, which would have been between January and May of 1982, to now, we've had seven hurricanes and five tropical storms," Ladner said. "So that ring's been through a lot, not considering all the heavy equipment running up and down the beach."

He said the ring is in excellent condition, except for a small scuff.

Wild turkeys terrorize Wisconsin neighborhood, chase postal workers

Residents of a southern Wisconsin town have been dealing with an unusual group of local ruffians: a flock of aggressive wild turkeys.

Janesville neighbor Lawrence Meyer, who recorded video of the turkeys chasing a postal worker down a neighborhood road, said his 8-year-old son also had a run-in with the birds while crossing the street.

"As he was approaching, crossing the street, the turkeys started chasing after him," Meyer told WMTV. "It's scary. Like these are big birds. They're as tall as my son. When they fluff their feathers, they're scary. They're huge to an 8-year-old."

He said the birds weren't always so aggressive.

"I love wildlife. At first, the turkeys were cool. They brought life to the neighborhood," Meyer said. "As it's developed, they've become a nuisance. They block traffic, they've caused accidents, they went after my mailman."

Jason Cotter, a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wildlife biologist for Rock County, said turkeys tend to flock together during the winter, but its not common for them to become as aggressive as the Janesville birds.

"It's more of a rarity than it is common," Cotter said. "We have heard of flocks in urban areas, obviously around the state, but these particular birds in Janesville have been seemingly causing a stir with folks getting in and out of cars, mailmen, children going to school."

Cotter recommended residents take steps to make themselves appear larger, such as carrying an umbrella.

The Wisconsin DNR said it is consulting with USDA Wildlife Services to come up with a plan to resolve the Janesville situation. Officials said the birds might end up being relocated.

Stranded swan rescued from frozen river in Connecticut

Firefighters in Connecticut responded to a frozen river to rescue a swan that ventured out onto the ice and became stuck in place.

The Norwalk Fire Department said on social media that crews were called Tuesday to the area of the Wall Street Bridge on a report of a swan stuck to the ice covering the Norwalk River.

"Firefighters donned cold-water rescue suits and carefully entered the river to reach the animal," the post said. "Crews safely freed the swan from the surrounding ice and brought it to shore without incident."

The swan was taken to the VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center.

"The swan is stable," veterinarian Melissa Salgado told the CT Examiner. "There were blocks of ice attached to him which we had to melt off using warm water, and he was given food and water. He's doing well and warming up. He has no serious wounds."

The swan will be released back into the wild once veterinarians give him the all-clear.

Dream of mother leads S.C. woman to $13,000 lottery prize

A South Carolina woman said a dream about her mother led to her using her mom's phone number to play the lottery — and she ended up winning $13,000.

The Kingstree woman told South Carolina Education Lottery officials she woke up from a dream about her mother and decided to use digits from her phone number to play Pick 4.

The player visited Harry's Xpress on North Williamsburg County Highway in Kingstree and bought five tickets, each bearing the same special set of numbers.

Each ticket earned a $2,600 prize — earning the woman a total $13,000.

"I was super excited, so I left work early," the winner said.

She said she plans to use her winnings to take a vacation.

Texas man folds 250 functional paper planes in one hour

A Texas man folded 250 paper planes in one hour — an average of four per minute — and proved they could fly to attempt a Guinness World Record.

Tyler resident Richard DeFreece, who first applied to Guinness World Records two years ago, said he got the go-head for his official attempt in December 2025, and he made his try at the record on Saturday.

DeFreece managed to fold 250 paper planes in the allotted time, besting the goal of 200 set by Guinness World Records.

Each plane was tested by an official at the end of the attempt to ensure they were all airworthy.

"It feels awesome," DeFreece told the Tyler Morning Telegraph. "It's a lot of hard work and practice that went into it and I'm glad to get the record."

He said breaking a world record is a longtime goal.

"I have always wanted to break a world record and I started thinking, 'What can I possibly do?' because I'm not the fastest and I'm not the strongest, so I started looking at obscure records," DeFreece said. "I contacted Guinness and they said the record was 200 for paper airplanes and I was like, 'OK, I think I can break that.'"

Evidence from DeFreece's attempt must now be reviewed by Guinness World Records to become official.

Man balances chair on his chin for 1 hour, 20 minutes

A serial Guinness World Record-breaker balanced a chair on his chin for 1 hour and 20 minutes to recapture one of his previously-held titles.

David Rush, who recently recaptured a similar record by balancing a ladder on his chin for 19 minutes and 11 seconds, originally earned the title for the longest duration balancing a chair on the chin at 1 hour and 8 minutes.

He lost the record to another balance expert who managed a time of 1 hour and 19 minutes.

"Over the past months, I have been training specifically to rebuild strength and endurance in my neck," Rush wrote online. "It is, quite literally, a pain in the neck. This record places constant load on the jaw, neck, and upper spine, and there is no moment of relief once the chair is in position. Every second requires active control."

Rush said he felt like he physically could have continued past the record-breaking mark, but the pain from holding position led to his ending his December 2024 attempt at 1 hour, 20 minutes and 30 seconds. Guinness World Records has now confirmed it was enough to recapture the title.

Dallas 12-year-old achieves nuclear fusion after four years of effort

A 12-year-old Dallas student's four-year-long science project may have resulted in his becoming the youngest person to ever achieve nuclear fusion.

Aiden McMillan, a Dallas Independent School District seventh-grader, said he started work on his ambitious project when he was just 8 years old, and spent the first two years studying nuclear physics concepts before building his first prototypes.

He said it took some work to ensure his mother was comfortable with his tinkering.

"There were some alarm bells with my mom, yes, she was like, ' Whoa, whoa, whoa, take a step back, tell me exactly what could go wrong, and how it could go wrong and make sure it doesn't go wrong,'" McMillan told NBC DFW.

The project concluded with McMillan achieving nuclear fusion.

"We got neutrons, yeah," McMillan said. "Kind of tearing up about it cause it was like, hard to describe. It was like the end of a long, long journey."

McMillan is now applying to Guinness World Records to be recognized as the youngest person to achieve nuclear fusion. The record is currently held by Jackson Oswalt, a Tennessee native who successfully achieved nuclear fusion just hours before his 13th birthday in 2018.

Serial underwear thief at New Zealand school identified as cat

A serial thief who has been stealing items including towels, shoes and underwear from a New Zealand school for over a year was finally caught on camera and identified as a literal cat burglar.

Marama Stewart, principal of the Apanui School in Whakatāne, said items had been mysteriously disappearing from the school for over a year, particularly during the season while the pool was in use.

"Initially we noticed single shoes and goggles and undies and towels left along the footpath into the school," Stewart told Stuff.co.nz.

The school posted a video to Facebook when the thief was finally caught on a security camera. The footage shows a black cat dragging a large towel across the playground.

"When a pair of togs [swimming trunks] and a towel went missing, my office lady checked the cameras for our wee offender and he was witnessed, and a large stash was found at the back of the PE shed," Stewart said.

She said the school's groundskeeper made contact with the cat's owner, who confirmed their pet was a notorious thief.

"Can we say his owner wishes that he remains anonymous? We're calling him Slinky Malinki," Stewart said.

She said the thefts are a learning opportunity.

"I think we're going to have a lot of fun writing stories about our own school's Slinky Malinki," she said. "And it might help our kids to remember to put their things in their bag!"

Art student stuffs world's largest sock monkey in Britain

A student at Scotland's Glasgow School of Art used nearly 200 feet of corduroy fabric to create the world's largest sock monkey sculpture.

Emilia Evans-Munton, 22, said she started work on her massive plushie as a passion project for her degree show, and only later realized it might be the largest in the world.

"My dad pointed out it was probably the largest in the world and encouraged me to contact Guinness World Records," Evans-Munton told Guinness World Records.

The final sculpture, which was stuffed with 40 straw bales, measures 49 feet and 6 inches long.

"A large part of my sculpture practice is focused on scale, and making my adult audience feel small again in comparison to such a big object to encourage the (perhaps repressed) childlike fascination that exists in us all," she said.

The sock monkey also has massive buttons for eyes.

"I repurposed recycled scaffolding board/wood into the giant buttons for the eyes, which were 1.5 meters [5 feet] wide each," the artist said.

The sock monkey was introduced to the public at Field Maneuvers Festival in Norfolk, England. Visitors were encouraged to interact with the massive toy.

"The more bashed and deflated a soft toy is, the more it has been loved. The interaction from the audience allows the rediscovery of their love for their once-favorite toys, all the while showering the sock monkey with a newfound love," Evans-Munton said.

She said the sock monkey's stuffing has now been removed and it is in storage in her grandmother's attic.

Illinois family's 33-year-old cockatiel is the oldest in the world

An Illinois family's 33-year-old pet cockatiel, named Sonny, was officially named the oldest bird of his species by Guinness World Records.

Sonny officially earned the record for oldest cockatiel living at the age of 32 years and 292 days old in October 2025, and he celebrated his 33rd birthday on January 10.

The bird's owner, Northbrook resident Janet Reicher, said Sonny came to live with her family when he was just a few weeks old in 1993. She said he quickly showed an aptitude for music and learned to whistle songs from Bridge over the River Kwai and the theme from the Andy Griffith Show.

"We used to do duets while I showered, and he sat on the vanity," Reicher told Guinness World Records. "He used to have a large vocabulary, but now it is just a few words with lots of baby babble."

She credited Sonny's good health and long life to a healthy diet and plenty of social engagement.

"He is a great companion to me," Reicher said. "He socializes with anyone that pays attention to him. My husband used to travel a lot, and Sonny kept me company and always made me laugh."

She said Sonny is paper trained, so he only has to go into his cage to eat seed, drink water and take naps.

"He usually spends waking hours outside of his cage, sitting on various size perches. In the evenings, he often sits on my knee while watching TV," she said.

Kentucky man wins $291,010 lottery prize thanks to a mistake

An Ohio man said a mistake he made while buying his usual Rolling Cash 5 lottery ticket led to his winning a $291,000 jackpot.

The Avon Lake man told Ohio Lottery officials he meant to buy tickets bearing his usual numbers for seven consecutive days, but accidentally purchased one ticket with his chosen numbers and six auto pick tickets — all for the same drawing.

One of his auto pick tickets, bearing the numbers 1-14-20-35-37, scored the $291,000 Rolling Cash 5 Jackpot in the Feb. 10 drawing. He also matched three numbers on another line of the ticket, earning an additional $10.

"Sometimes a mistake is quite favorable," the player said.

The winner said his prize money will allow him to quit driving for a ride-share service to spent more time with his wife. He said it will also help him to pay off his house, cover his wife's medical expenses and take care of other debts.

Researchers develop 'Smart Underwear' to track a wearer's farts

University of Maryland researchers designed "Smart Underwear" to track and measure flatulence — and they are seeking volunteers to wear them.

Brantley Hall, an assistant professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, led a team of scientists in creating the small device that snaps into a wearer's underwear and uses electrochemical sensors to track intestinal gas.

Hall said the device specifically records releases of hydrogen.

"Think of it like a continuous glucose monitor, but for intestinal gas," Hall said in a news release.

Santiago Botasini, an assistant research scientist at the school, led a study that found healthy adults produced flatus — passed gas — an average of 32 times a day, with individual variations reaching as much as 59 or as low as 4. Their findings were reported in the journal Biosensors and Bioelectronics: X.

Hall said doctors previously thought the average to be around 14, a number he attributed to the difficulties involved in measuring and self-reporting without the use of Smart Underwear.

"Objective measurement gives us an opportunity to increase scientific rigor in an area that's been difficult to study," Hall said.

The researchers are now working on a Human Flatus Atlas to objectively measure gas releases across hundreds of patients using Smart Underwear. The project will develop a baseline for normal adult flatulence patterns.

"We don't actually know what normal flatus production looks like," Hall said. "Without that baseline, it's hard to know when someone's gas production is truly excessive."

The team is seeking participants who fall into three categories developed from Botasini's team's research: Zen Digesters, those who consume high fiber diets yet pass gas rarely; Hydrogen Hyperproducers — "simply put, people who fart a lot;" and Normal People, those who fall between the other two categories.

"We've learned a tremendous amount about which microbes live in the gut, but less about what they're actually doing at any given moment," Hall said. "The Human Flatus Atlas will establish objective baselines for gut microbial fermentation, which is essential groundwork for evaluating how dietary, probiotic or prebiotic interventions change microbiome activity."

Florida aquarium's resident manatee is the oldest on record

A resident of a Florida aquarium confirmed to be at least 71 years old has been certified as the oldest manatee ever by Guinness World Records.

The record-keeping organization said Romeo, a resident at the Gulfarium on Okaloosa Island, was found in the wild in 1957 and was estimated to be 2-5 years old, making him at least 71 years old in 2026 — and likely a few years older.

Romeo spent most of his life at the Miami Seaquarium, moved to Zoo Tampa in 2023 and arrived at the Gulfarium in 2025.

"We are so honored to be caring for Romeo. He has touched so many people and been such an inspiration for ocean conservation for so many years. To be able to carry on that legacy for his species with him here at the Gulfarium is such a pleasure," Patrick Berry, president of the Gulfarium, told Guinness World Records.

Logan Paul's rare Pokémon card auctioned for record-breaking $16M

A rare Pokémon card famously owned by online celebrity-turned WWE wrestler Logan Paul was auctioned for a record-breaking $16,492,000.

The Pikachu Illustrator card was one of only 39 produced as prizes for a 1998 contest and is the only one to be graded a 10 by Professional Sports Authenticator.

The card became the world's most expensive Pokémon card when Paul purchased it for $5,275,000 in 2021. He famously wore the card around his neck when he made his debut at WWE's WrestleMania in 2022.

Paul put the card up on the block via online auction house Goldin, and it sold to AJ Scaramucci for $16,492,000, making it the most expensive Pokémon card sold at auction and the most expensive trading card sold at auction.

A Guinness World Records adjudicator was present at the close of the auction to confirm the records.

The Pikachu Illustrator card was designed by Atsuko Nishida, the graphic designer who created Pikachu for the first line of Pokémon video games.

Loose dog crosses the finish line at Olympic skiing event

Skiers competing in the qualifying round of the women's cross-country team sprint at the Winter Olympics in Italy crossed the finish line with an unregistered competitor: an escaped dog.

The dog, a Czech wolfhound, was recorded by NBC Sports' cameras as it followed Croatian skier Tena Hadzic across the finish line, eliciting cheers from the spectators.

"The biggest cheer of the day and it's not for any of the skiers so far," an announcer observes in the footage shared to the official NBC Olympics account on X.

The canine turned out to be a Czech wolfhound named Nazgul, after the ringwraiths from The Lord of the Rings.

Nazgul's owner told NPR the 2-year-old dog is "stubborn, but very sweet."

"He was crying this morning more than normal because he was seeing us leaving - and I think he just wanted to follow us," the owner said. "He always looks for people."

Nazgul was safely returned home after making his photo finish.

Michigan men play pickleball for record-breaking 28 hours

A pair of Michigan athletes officially broke the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon playing singles pickleball with a 28-hour game.

Grand Rapids residents Brad Haverkamp and Caleb Dang said they took on the record in late November after a previous attempt to break a similar record for playing doubles pickleball fell short in 2024.

The men played for 28 consecutive hours, and were only allowed a 5-minute break each hour.

"I think at a certain point, your brain just shuts off and you're on autopilot," Dang told WZZM-TV. "I might as well have blacked out for the middle 20 hours."

The duo learned this month that evidence from their attempt had been accepted by Guinness World Records and they now officially hold the title for the longest marathon playing pickleball (singles).

Pig chase in Indiana ends with 'straight-up hog wrasslin''

Indiana police said a chase involving a "non-traditional" four-legged suspect ended with some "straight-up hog wrasslin'."

The Richmond Police Department said on social media that a pair of officers were dispatched to assist animal control with a "non-traditional suspect," a "potbelly pig on the run."

"Officer Santiago arrived to help corral our four-legged fugitive, but this little guy wasn't going down without a fight. Smarter than he looked and quicker than expected," the post said.

"Then Officer Tyree pulled up. No negotiations. No snacks. Just straight-up hog wrasslin'," police wrote.

The pig was secured and taken to be examined by a veterinarian.

"Not all heroes wear capes... some just know how to handle a pig," the post said.

Henry Ford biography returned to Wash. library nearly 64 years late

A Washington library revealed a biography of Henry Ford was recently returned nearly 64 years past its due date.

The Richland Public Library said on social media that a copy of Ford: The Times, The Man, The Company by Allan Nevins was recently returned to the facility by a man who found it among a personal library of books he inherited from a friend.

The book's original due date was March 17, 1962 — making it 63 years, 11 months and one day overdue.

Library officials estimated the book would have accrued "at least several thousand dollars" in late fees had the fines not been capped before the library went completely fee-free in 2022.

"We now only assess replacement fees on LOST materials (items more than 2 weeks overdue). Those fees are waived if the item is returned in good condition," the post said.

The man told library staff there was a second library book among his inherited materials, and he plans to return that one as soon as he finishes reading it.

Judge rejects lawsuit over Buffalo Wild Wings' 'boneless wings'

An Illinois judge ruled against a Chicago man who sued Buffalo Wild Wings, alleging the chain's use of the term "boneless wings" was deceptive marketing.

Aimen Halim filed a lawsuit against BWW in March 2023, challenging what he called "the false and deceptive marketing and advertising of Buffalo Wild Wings' Boneless Wings."

The suit alleged the products' name misleads customers into thinking they are made of de-boned chicken wing meat, rather than fried chicken breast meat.

"Specifically, the name and description of the Products (i.e., as 'Boneless Wings') leads reasonable consumers to believe the Products are actually chicken wings," the complaint stated.

Halim claimed he purchased a serving of boneless wings, and would not have done so if he had known they weren't made of wing meat.

BWW responded to the lawsuit in a 2023 tweet.

"It's true. Our boneless wings are all white meat chicken. Our hamburgers contain no ham. Our buffalo wings are 0% buffalo," the company said.

U.S. District Judge John Tharp Jr. issued a ruling on Tuesday rejecting Halim's complaint.

"Boneless wings are not a niche product for which a consumer would need to do extensive research to figure out the truth. Instead, 'boneless wings' is a common term that has existed for over two decades," Tharp wrote in his ruling.

The ruling rejected Halim's claim that the marketing is misleading.

"Despite his best efforts, Halim did not 'drum' up enough factual allegations to state a claim. Though he has standing to bring the claim because he plausibly alleged economic injury, he does not plausibly allege that reasonable consumers are fooled by BWW's use of the term 'boneless wings.'"

Tharp said Halim can modify and refile his claim by March 20.

"Accordingly, although it is difficult to imagine that Halim can provide additional facts about his experience that would demonstrate that BWW is committing a deceptive act by calling its nuggets 'boneless wings,' but the Court will give him leave to try. Any amended complaint is due by March 20, 2026," the ruling states.

Australian woman's collection of 2,656 Shopkins breaks world record

An Australian woman who has loved Shopkins toys since she was a child amassed a record-breaking collection of 2,656 different items.

Mareeba, Queensland, resident Alexa Szerstuk said she fell in love with Shopkins toys when a classmate brought some to school when she was 7 years old.

Szerstuk said she started buying her own Shopkins and now has a collection of 2,656 unique items — although her collection numbers more than 4,000 if doubles are counted.

She took the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of Shopkins memorabilia from British woman Rhianna Connors, whose collection was tallied at 2,271 pieces in 2019.

Shopkins — small toys shaped like food, clothing items and other objects — were released by Australia's Moose Toys in 2014. The line was discontinued in 2023.

"I love Shopkins because when they were first released there was nothing quite like them on the market, for girls especially," Szerstuk told Guinness World Records. "I started collecting in 2014 when I was seven and they were first released. It became such an obsession because it was just so exciting to have a pack and find ones you didn't have and to see if you'd get a special edition one or even a limited addition."

Potbellied pig shows up in Ala. family's yard, refuses to leave

An Alabama family are attempting to evict an unwanted squatter from their property: a potbellied pig that has taken up residence in their yard.

Jamie Watt said the pig turned up on his property Jan. 16 and has refused to leave, despite Watt's efforts to chase it away.

He said the approximately 100-pound hog has ripped up his grass and made itself a bed in his garden.

"I just want him gone because I know what kind of destruction they can do, but I can't get rid of him," Watt told WKRG-TV. "I guess he's finding plenty to eat around here because he just won't leave."

Watt said he doesn't want to harm the pig, and local animal control said they can't do anything about the pig until its owner is identified.

"I have tried to find the owner and cannot find the owner, and we just want him gone," Watt said.

He said he is hoping the pig's owner will come forward, or someone else will give the pig a new home.

"His rent's due, and he needs to go," Watt said.

World's oldest competitive pool player still going strong at 98

A Florida woman who became the world's oldest competitive pool player at the age of 94 is still going strong at 98 and is headed to a tournament in Las Vegas.

Jensen Beach resident Maggie Kennedy was dubbed the world's oldest competitive pool player by Guinness World Records in 2021, and five years later she and her team, Sunday Funday, are headed to the BCA Nationals Pool League Tournament in Las Vegas.

"We'll be playing every day from Wednesday through Sunday, and then, of course, the slot machines will be right handy," Kennedy told WPTV. "That's fun."

Kennedy said her opponents are often surprised by her.

"I fell in love with the game," Kennedy said. "I think it's because I'm old, I think that surprises people."

The local pool-playing community came together at Raxx Billiards in Stuart on Sunday to donate $2,000 for Kennedy to fly to Vegas first-class.

"I'm still flabbergasted," Kennedy said. "I was just so touched by what they did."

Kennedy credited good genetics with contributing to her active lifestyle.

"I come from good, hearty New England stock," Kennedy said. "I was taught to be nice and be happy, and here I am."

Toucan safely captured after months on the loose in Las Vegas

A toucan on the loose in Las Vegas since November 2025 has been safely captured after flying into a local homeowner's garage.

Southwest Exotic Avian Rescue, which had been on the hunt for Sam Toucan for months, said the bird flew into a garage Wednesday and the homeowners recognized him from the news and contacted the rescue group.

Skye Marsh, who recovered Sam for Southwest Exotic Avian Rescue, took him directly to a veterinarian for assessment and treatment.

"His beak is a little beat up. He's got some missing patches of feathers and stuff. You can tell that he's had some run-ins with things. The tip of his beak is chipped off. So he's got some stories in that little bird brain," Marsh told KVVU-TV.

She said Sam actually appears to be in remarkably good health for having been on his own since Nov. 14.

"All of these birds come from very humid areas, and that's not us," Marsh said.

She said toucans require very specific care.

"Just trying to give them tap water can kill them because they can build up iron in their system and it can kill them," she said. "This kid needs a lot of things that we don't have here, and that's kind of scary. So we need to kind of band together and get him safe and get him where he gets the things that he needs to survive, not just to survive, but to thrive."

Marsh said Sam will remain in quarantine for the time being until bloodwork and other test results come back to ensure he is in good health.

Large python makes midnight visit to home's bathroom

An Australian snake catcher responded to a late night call from a Queensland resident who found a large carpet python lurking in their bathroom.

Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 shared a video showing the scene that a catcher named Wooly was confronted with when he arrived at the home after midnight.

The video shows Wooly sliding the bathroom door open to find a large carpet python slithering across the floor.

The post posited three possible explanations for how the snake wound up in the bathroom: it "fell through the bathroom vent from inside the roof," it "snuck in during the day and was hiding until night time" or "someone in the house is a Witch and turned themself into a snake."

The snake was safely removed from the house and relocated to a more suitable area.

Maryland man stops for lunch, wins $50,000 lottery prize

A Maryland man made a stop for lunch during his break for lunch and ended up winning a $50,000 prize from a scratch-off lottery ticket.

The winner, who dubbed himself "Wawa Winner," told Maryland Lottery officials he recently stopped at the Wawa store on Pulaski Highway in Rosedale to buy a meatball sub on his lunch break.

He also visited the store's lottery vending machine and selected a $30 200X the Cash ticket.

The player scratched the ticket off before returning to work and discovered he was a $50,000 winner.

"I kept saying, 'Is this real?'" the player recalled when he claimed his prize Wednesday.

The man said he had a strong feeling the ticket was going to be lucky.

"I knew it was coming," he said.

"Wawa Winner" said he will use his winnings to help his family.

'Sharply-dressed' cat rescued from Maine roof

Firefighters in Maine came to the rescue of a "sharply dressed tuxedo cat" that made its way to the steep roof of a Lewiston home.

The Lewiston Fire Department said on social media that firefighters teamed up with local animal control to rescue a "sharply dressed tuxedo cat from a rooftop."

The Engine 3 crew arrived to find the cat was about 40 feet over the ground on the steep roof.

Lt. Rob Gayton and Pvt. Dennis Everson set up a ladder to reach the feline.

Gayton said they approached the feline cautiously.

"Sometimes they scratch, sometimes they bite," he told the Sun Journal newspaper. "This one was calm. The cat came up to my hand, sniffed it and I snagged him."

Gayton said the cat meowed nonstop on the way down the ladder, and the look on its face seemed to indicate they were calls of annoyance.

"The cat was less than impressed that his roof-top excursion had come to an end," he said.

The cat was turned over to animal control, which is now attempting to identify the feline's owner.

Man catches tennis ball behind his back from a distance of 199 feet

Idaho man David Rush caught a tennis ball behind his back from a distance of 199 feet to claim his latest Guinness World Records title.

Rush enlisted the help of Chris Stumph, who he has collaborated with on multiple other Guinness World Record attempts, to throw the ball a distance of 199 feet.

"What made this hard wasn't just catching a ball blind. It's the compound problem: Chris had to hit it just right, and I had to be in the right spot, and my hand had to be in the right position, and the timing had to be perfect. Any one of those variables goes wrong and you're starting over," Rush wrote online.

He managed to catch the ball after multiple attempts, and the distance was confirmed by a surveyor.

The attempt occurred in December 2024, and Rush has now received confirmation from Guinness World Records that he officially has the title for the farthest behind-the-back catch of a tennis ball. The previous record stood at 177 feet.

World's smallest arcade machine is only .98 inches tall

A 24-year-old electronics enthusiast in India has constructed the world's smallest arcade machine — a .98-inches-tall device that runs Space Invaders.

Kiran Patil said he has been fascinated by electronics since he was a child, and over the years his interest has led him to experiment with multiple microelectronics projects.

"I have built many electronic projects before involving microcontrollers and displays, but this is the first gaming arcade project that I have attempted," Patil told Guinness World Records.

Patil's arcade machine measures .98 inches tall, .6 inches long and .59 inches wide. It features four buttons and can run an emulated version of classic arcade game Space Invaders.

"I built an initial prototype, but it was fairly rudimentary and I also needed to further develop the software side of the project. University and work commitments paused the progress for a while, but in the summer of 2025 I decided to revive the idea and take it forward," he said.

Guinness World Records confirmed the result of Patil's efforts is officially the world's smallest arcade machine.

Patil previously earned a Guinness World Records title in April 2019, when he built the world's smallest working drill, measuring .24 inches tall, .27 inches long and .18 inches wide.

Squirrel blamed for government Internet outage in Ohio county

A network outage that caused several government offices to lose phone and Internet services in an Ohio county is now being blamed on a meddlesome squirrel.

Medina County officials said the Feb. 20 outage that knocked out phone and Internet services at government facilities including the county prosecutor's office was initially thought to be caused by contractors accidentally slicing through underground fiber.

County Administrator Matt Springer revealed at last week's commissioner's meeting that the true cause has now been found to be a squirrel that built a nest inside the fiber infrastructure and chewed through multiple lines.

"It's hard to make this stuff up," Springer said at the meeting.

He said steps are being taken with Internet providers and the local fiber network to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Squirrels are known menaces to utility companies, having been blamed for numerous power outages across the United States over the years.

'Butt birth' rhino from 'Ace Ventura' sequel up for auction

An auction house specializing in props from movies and TV series is offering a screen-matched "butt birth" rhinoceros from Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.

PropstoreAuction said the rhino was used for exterior shots in the 1995 comedy when Ace Ventura, played by Jim Carrey, was using the mechanical animal to spy on a suspect.

An infamous scene features Carrey squeezing out from the rear end of the rhino when his cooling fan breaks down, earning the prop the nickname of the "butt birth" rhino.

"Distinctive patterning on the bolts, as well as the placement of holes drilled into the top of the door hatch on this rhino's side, screen-match to when Ace climbed out of the rhino's butt, though this rhino's neck and legs appear slightly differently today as a result of sympathetic restoration and repainting conducted after filming," the auction house said.

Bidding on the prop, which was previously displayed at Planet Hollywood, had reached $5,500 as of the early afternoon Thursday. The auction house said it is expected to fetch a top price of up to $8,000.

Bidding closes March 25.

Raccoon burglar making daily visits to Cincinnati apartment

A Cincinnati woman who has lived in her apartment for less than a month said a raccoon has been using a hole in the roof to invade her home every day for over a week.

Alexus Hubbard said she first started hearing unusual noises in her ceiling on Feb. 20, and on March 1 she captured video of an intruding raccoon entering her Westwood apartment through a hole in a kitchen cupboard.

She said the raccoon has since been entering her home every day, often bringing in trash from outside and leaving its bodily waste in the living room. She said the animal is apparently getting into the building through a hole in the roof.

Hubbard said she is especially concerned for her son, who has cerebral palsy.

"He can't walk," Hubbard told WXIX-TV. "His main method of transportation is crawling. He is not able to go around his own house at all because it's unsafe for him. I don't know what kind of biohazards are on the floor."

Hubbard said her landlord, Savin Holdings LLC, placed a trap for the raccoon Thursday night.

Authorities in Virginia recently identified another raccoon as the perpetrator in a string of break-ins at a strip mall in Hanover. The raccoon, which was found passed out drunk on the bathroom floor at ABC Liquors on Black Friday last year, was also blamed for previous break-ins at a neighboring karate studio and a DMV office.

British library's overdue books turn up at thrift store 50 years later

Workers at a library in England got a "huge surprise" when a pair of books that were 50 years overdue turned up at a thrift store about 60 miles away.

The Leeds City Council said in a news release that the Leeds Central Library was recently contacted by employees at a thrift store in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

The librarians were told two books — Volumes I and II of the Rev. William Buckland's Geology and Mineralogy — turned up among the donations to the store.

Buckland's reference tomes were written in 1836, and were checked out from the library 50 years ago, with a due date in March 1976.

"It was a huge surprise to find out that these beautiful books had somehow turned up in such an unlikely place after all these years, and we're delighted to have them back home at the library, even if they are half a century late," Sally Hughes, librarian at Leeds Central Library, said in the news release.

"We'll never know who it was who borrowed them and why, but it speaks volumes about how interesting and influential Rev. Buckland's observations were that enthusiasts were clearly still keen to read them more than a century after they were written," she said.

African antelope on the loose in Nashville neighborhood

Residents of a Tennessee neighborhood have been tracking the movements of an unusual visitor — an escaped African antelope.

Lance Carter captured photos of the oryx, an antelope species native to Africa, when it ran into morning traffic earlier this week near Old Marrowbone Road in the Joelton neighborhood of Nashville.

"It was on the right side of the road sticking out of the woods — was the back end of an animal, at the time I thought was a really big goat," Carter told WSMV-TV. "But I didn't know what it was. I've never seen anything like it before."

Joelton resident Gigi de Lugo, who nicknamed the antelope Leonard, said the animal has been spotted all over the neighborhood, turning up in yards, farms and roads.

Leonard's presence in the area evoked memories of Ed the zebra, who spent eight days on the loose in Rutherford County in 2025.

"It just seems that whenever we have a lot going on in the world, some exotic animal is loose around Nashville, and a great distraction and adorable," de Lugo told WKRN-TV. "We're hoping he ... can get caught, so that he doesn't hurt or cause anything as far as a car accident as well."

Leonard's origins remain unclear, although some residents speculated he may have escaped from a local exotic animal farm. Tennessee does not have any laws prohibiting oryx ownership.

Oddest unclaimed luggage items of 2025 include robot, meteorite

Some of the most unusual items found in lost and unclaimed luggage last year included a robot, a bionic knee, a meteorite and a beekeeping suit, a new report says.

Unclaimed Baggage, the United States' only authorized reseller of lost luggage, released its third annual Found Report, an accounting of the items lost or abandoned by travelers last year.

The most unusual finds from the report include a fully-assembled robotic unit "featuring fully articulated joints, electric motors, wiring and control components."

Another unusual piece of mechanical engineering was a powered prosthetic knee joint with an integrated motor, electronic controls and metal housing.

"When found, the model was still in online trial phases, indicating clinical testing or early-stage use," the report states.

Some of the other bizarre items in the report include a full set of 10-karat diamond grills, a fragment from a meteorite that fell to Earth in 1576, a pair of fire poi used for fire dancing and flow arts, a 1-ounce bar of pure gold from The Perth Mint in Australia, a matching set of samurai swords, a full beekeeping suit, a set of gold-plated golf clubs and a didgeridoo made from teak wood.

Other notable odd finds included taxidermy deer foam, a frog purse, a pre-World War I U.S. Army bayonet, a giant stuffed goose, a long bone specimen, an armadillo purse, a 12-pack case of sardines, a fake skeleton, a suitcase full of rat poison and a feather bow tie.

The report said the most common items found in 2025 included clothing items, jewelry, cellphones, shoes, device accessories, headphones, coats, tablets and books.

Four male cheetah cubs born at San Diego Zoo

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park announced the births of four male cheetah cubs, the first of their species to be born at the facility since 2020.

The zoo said first-time mother Kelechi gave birth to the cubs on Jan. 24.

"Just as they do in native habitats, Kelechi and her cubs are bonding in a private, behind-the-scenes den at the Carnivore Conservation Center," zoo officials wrote in the announcement. "The cubs are now emerging from their den, giving guests an opportunity to see them as part of an Ultimate Safari."

The zoo said cheetah mothers are very attentive to their babies.

"During these vital early months, Kelechi spends much of her time grooming her cubs and keeping them close. As they continue to grow more curious and active, they play and climb all over her as she keeps a close eye on them, chirping to call them closer when needed," the announcement said.

The brothers are expected to form a lifelong bond.

"Male cheetahs, like these four brothers, form groups called 'coalitions' that will hunt and travel together for life, a unique trait for this primarily solitary species," officials said.

Runners earn Guinness World Record for deepest marathon

A group of runners held a certified event over 3,000 feet underground, earning them a Guinness World Record for the deepest marathon.

The marathon took place in Garpenberg, Sweden, and featured 55 runners from across 18 countries. The course measured 3,669 ft. and 10 inches underground.

Guinness World Records noted that the depth is between the height of the world's tallest waterfall, Angel Falls, and the U.K's highest mountain known as Ben Nevis.

Runners had to wear headlamps to compete in the event, which contained 11 laps and raised around $1million for charity.

"It' hot, it's humid, it's a bit dusty, but we're good," one of the competitors told Guinness World Records.

The event was a joint venture between companies BecomingX, ICMM and Boliden. The previous Guinness World Record for deepest marathon went to the Crystal Mine Underground Marathon in Germany, which took place 1,640 ft. and 5 inches below sea level.

Pig with 1.1 million Instagram followers earns Guinness World Record

A 4-year-old porcine social media star living in California earned the Guinness World Records title for the most followers on Instagram for a pig: 1.1 million.

The record-keeping organization said Merlin the Pig had 1.1 million followers on Instagram as of Feb. 23, earning him the title.

Owner Mina Alali adopted the now-4-year-old pig in March 2022, and started training him when he was just 3 months old.

Videos shared on Merlin's Instagram page show him using buttons placed around the house to play voice recordings that specify his current needs and desires.

"Now, at 4 years old, Merlin has over 30 buttons in the house that he uses regularly, sparking conversation online about just how intelligent, emotional and human-like pigs can be when given the time, patience and positive reinforcement," Guinness World Records said.

Owl found napping on antique store shelf in New York

A conservation officer was summoned to an antique store in New York where shoppers discovered an owl sleeping on a shelf next to a chicken-shaped cookie jar.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation said Environmental Conservation Officer Darren Milliron responded Feb. 21 to an antique store in East Durham, Greene County.

"Employees at an antique store stated that shoppers noticed something extremely lifelike on one of the shelves," the department said in a news release. "A sleepy eastern screech owl was perched next to a chicken cookie jar."

Milliron carefully picked the owl up and took it to a nearby wooded area, where it was observed flying into a tree.

"This species of owl is nocturnal and typically nests in tree cavities, not store shelves," the release said.

A Netherlands engineer built a car for his pet goldfish, Blub, who drove the vehicle a distance of 40 feet in one minute to break a world record.

Thomas de Wolf constructed a four-wheeled vehicle with a water tank for a driver's seat. The vehicle is steered by analyzing the movements of the goldfish inside the tank.

"Normally my job is quite monotonous, so I wanted to create something that would entertain people, turning my 'serious' job into something fun," de Wolf said on Guinness World Records' Italian TV series Lo Show dei Record.

De Wolf said that while a car driven by a goldfish might not be particularly practical, the motion-sensing technology that it runs on could prove to be very useful to people with disabilities.

"The objective is to show people what is possible to achieve with this kind of technology, even when it's not necessarily something 'serious,'" he said. "I would love to maybe one day be able to help people with mobility issues."

Blub the goldfish was placed into the car and drove it for a distance of 40 feet and 3.46 inches, setting a new Guinness World Record for the greatest distance covered in a motion-sensing vehicle by a goldfish in one minute.

"How am I going to explain to Blub now that he has a world record title?" de Wolf mused.

Prosthetic leg, surfboard among Los Angeles Metro's Lost & Found

The Los Angeles Metro revealed some of the most unusual items in its Lost & Found, including a surfboard, a prosthetic leg and a 55-inch TV.

Los Angeles Metro Lost & Found office, located off Pasadena Avenue in Montecito Heights, said about 1,000 items are left behind on the transit system's trains and buses each month.

Patrick Diaz, communications manager for Metro's customer experience department, said many of the items are expected, such as cellphones, backpacks, glasses, musical instruments and sporting equipment.

"We see a large volume of recovered items coming through our bus operations, for example bicycles that are typically left on the front bike rack," Diaz told The Los Angeles Times.

He said some of the most unusual items currently housed in the office include a prosthetic leg, a surfboard, a 55-inch TV, blowtorches, large electrical generators and a case filled with VHS tapes.

"Maybe they get up too fast, or they're afraid to miss their stop, and they just get up without checking their seat," Diaz told Secret Los Angeles.

He said about 30% of the items that pass through the Lost & Found are eventually returned to their owners.

"We see a large volume of recovered items coming through our bus operations, for example bicycles that are typically left on the front bike rack," he said.

Britain's first elephant shrew pups, 'the Snootlets,' born at zoo

The Hertfordshire Zoo in England announced the births of two elephant shrew pups — the very first of their species to be born in Britain.

The zoo said the elephant shrews, also known as black and rufous sengis, were born to first-time parents Nuru and Mala on Feb. 23, and were discovered via CCTV cameras in the animals' enclosure.

The long-nosed babies, the first elephant shrews ever born in Britain, have been nicknamed "the Snootlets."

The zoo said each baby weighed approximately 1 ounce at the time of birth — roughly equivalent to a single AA battery.

A pet owner was left gobsmacked after discovering the 'puppy' she'd bought for £140 was in fact a fox.

The woman, identified only as Ms Wang, paid for what she believed was a Japanese Spitz but became suspicious when the creature stopped eating dog food at three months old.

According to Chinese media, Ms Wang also noticed the 'puppy' never barked and its coat became thicker whilst its tail grew longer than a typical dog's.

Her suspicions were eventually confirmed when a worker from a local zoo identified the pet as a domesticated fox.

Ms Wang, from Jinzhong in China's Shanxi province, told Shanxi Network Television she purchased the 'puppy' from a pet shop in July 2018.

Syrup spill closes California highway for nearly 9 hours

A stretch of California highway was closed for nearly nine hours while crews worked to clean up a sticky syrup spill.

The California Highway Patrol said a truck overturned Monday in the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway in Fontana, causing hundreds of gallons of syrup to spill out into the roadway.

Caltrans crews attempted to use an absorbent material to clean up the syrup, but it proved to be too sticky, so a water truck was summoned to hose down the roadway.

The westbound lanes were closed for nearly nine hours during the cleanup operation. The road was finally reopened at about 8 p.m. Monday.

Hospital takes legal action as patient refuses to leave room months after being discharged

A hospital is seeking a court order to remove the former patient, who they say is taking up valuable time and resources.

A former patient of the Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) in Florida was discharged on October 6 2025, with a formal discharge order being entered on October 7. However, she has continued to occupy an inpatient room at the facility ever since.

It is unknown what health condition she was suffering from to end up at the hospital in the first place.

According to lawsuit documents seen by USA Today, staff at TMH have made 'repeated efforts to assist the defendant in safely completing discharge', such as 'assistance, including coordination with family members and offering non-emergency medical transportation to obtain necessary identification'.

Now, the hospital is taking legal steps to remove her and is also seeking assistance from the Leon County Sheriff's Office to help in doing so.

More than 1,050 people form human shamrock in Dublin, Ohio

The city of Dublin, Ohio, unofficially broke a Guinness World Record by arranging more than 1,050 people into the shape of a massive shamrock.

The record attempt, organized by creative agency Cornett and Visit Dublin Ohio, took place at Riverside Crossing Park after the city's St. Patrick's Day parade on Tuesday.

Organizers said more than 1,050 people in green ponchos formed the shape of the shamrock, enough to break the current Guinness World Record for largest human shamrock, which was set by 815 people in Dublin, Ireland, in 2013.

"St. Patrick's Day is already a big moment for Dublin, but we wanted to create something that people could literally be part of," Scott Dring, president and CEO of Visit Dublin Ohio, told Marketing Communication News. "Seeing hundreds of people show up ready to form a giant shamrock together was a pretty magical way to celebrate the city's Irish spirit."

The record attempt must still be reviewed by Guinness World Records to become official.

Cheesy line of quesadillas stretches over 1,000 feet to set culinary record in Mexico

A group of talented cooks from Tlaxcala, Mexico have set a mouth-watering Guinness World Records title for the longest line of quesadillas, after assembling 11,206 of the tantalizing tortillas for the hungry public.
The Secretaría de Turismo del Estado de Tlaxcala organized this attempt on 6 March to showcase the region’s culinary heritage, as well as their traditional corn-based gastronomy.

To do so, they brought out 25 cooks to create nine variations of the classic cheesy dish – and construct a line of quesadillas longer than the height of the Eiffel Tower!

Altogether, the display of quesadillas stretched continuously for 364.6 m (1,196.1 ft), meaning they could cross three football fields with their tables of tasty snacks.

Half-naked twerking spring breaker hurled from Jeep in horrifying Texas crash

A half-naked reveler in Texas twerked atop a speeding SUV moments before the vehicle’s drunk driver smashed into a car and sent him flying, a viral video shows.

The 22-year-old man sustained a serious head injury after flying off the Jeep in the spring break hotspot of Port Aransas, a beach enclave near Corpus Christi, local police told KRIS 6.

The video, which went viral on social media, shows the man dancing suggestively on the roof; another clip shows the aftermath of the crash, in which paramedics treat his injuries while the driver and passengers — all wearing swimsuits — look on.

Message in a bottle floats from Canada to Scotland in 2 years

A man walking with his dogs on the coast of Scotland found a message in a bottle that had been launched from off Canada's Prince Edward Island.

Mike Scott said he and his dogs were walking on the beach in St. Cyrus, south of Aberdeen, about two weeks ago when his Labrador retriever, Maggie, found a bottle in the shallow water.

Scott found the bottle contained a letter that was sealed in a plastic bag to protect it from leaks.

The letter, which was written in French, was dated August 2024 and said the bottle was being launched from a ferry traveling from Prince Edward Island to the Isles-de-la-Madeleine in Quebec.

The letter's author, Annie Chaisson, asked anyone who found the bottle to contact her through Facebook.

Scott said his wife found what she believes to be Chaisson's Facebook profile, but has not yet received a reply to her message. He said the profile did not show any recent activity, so the letter's author might not be on the social network anymore.

Another message in a bottle found last year took a much longer journey across the Atlantic Ocean. The message, dated Sept. 12, 2012, was launched from Newfoundland's Bell Island and washed up in July 2025 on Ireland's Dingle Peninsula.

Pakistani man performs 66 thumb pushups in one minute

A Pakistani athlete broke the same Guinness World Record for a third time by performing 66 thumb pushups with one leg raised in one minute.

Muhammad Arshad, who has broken more than 14 Guinness World Records for feats of athleticism, earned the title for the most thumb push-ups with one leg raised in one minute for a third time in May 2025, the record-keeping organization said.

"Thumb push-ups are one of the most difficult and rare exercises, requiring exceptional strength, balance and mental toughness," Arshad told Guinness World Records. "This uniqueness is what drew me toward them."

He said keeping balanced on his thumbs with one leg bent at a 90-degree angle was one of the biggest challenges during training.

"Time is limited, the body becomes exhausted, yet maintaining balance and meeting the strict 90-degree bend requirement is extremely challenging," he said. "Even a small mistake can invalidate the entire attempt."

Deer trapped on rocks on Maine shore for hours

Authorities in Maine asked visitors to avoid a section of a historic walk due to a deer that appeared to be trapped on the rocks.

The Ogunquit Fire Department said on social media that the deer appeared to be "trapped on the rocks and resting" Tuesday along the Marginal Way in front of The Beachmere Inn.

"We appreciate The Beachmere for allowing pedestrians to pass through their gate and across their lawn to get around the affected area," the post said. "As soon as the deer is able to rest and the tide subsides a bit so it can move along safely that section of Marginal Way will be reopened."

The department later updated the post to say the deer had been able to hoof it from the scene without assistance.

"Just as we had hoped, the deer was able to rest undisturbed and eventually went on its way," officials wrote.

A cheeky shoplifting pelican has been spotted sneaking into a supermarket to snatch some snacks.

The bird was seen lurking outside the store before slipping through the doors for a quick treat.

A number of reports claimed the winged suspect was hanging around the area searching for handouts.

However, local law prohibits anyone from feeding these birds due to making survival ‘complicated’.

That was before it decided to take matters into its own wings and jump into a supermarket.

The hilarious clip taken at Publix, Manatee Beach, Florida, racked up a whopping 103,000 views, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Fortunately, a good samaritan put the pelican in a box and took it to a local wildlife centre.

“This guy was wandering around Manatee Beach looking for a handout, following people around,” a spokesperson for Wildlife, Inc Education & Rehabilitation Centre said.

“He was chased away, but then found himself in a Publix where he decided to give it another shot.

“Eventually he was put into a box and brought to us.

“He’s a young pelican, with no issues flying, but had probably continuously been fed by humans which is why it was seeking out people for food.

Live possum snuggles stuffed toys at Australian airport store

Workers and travelers at an airport in Tasmania, Australia, had an unusual encounter when a live possum was found snuggling with stuffed toys inside a store.

Hobart Airport in Cambridge shared video on social media showing the possum relaxing with the plush toys on a shelf at the Lagardere AWPL store.

Liam Bloomfield, multi-site manager for Lagardere AWPL, said staff members spotted the animal about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday.

"We found the possum sitting within the native plush," Bloomfield told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. "It looked like he was pretty comfortable with his friends there."

Bloomfield said the possum did not appear to be stressed, but it caused a stir when it climbed down from the shelf and went for a tour of the airport.

"We had passengers here, there and everywhere, taking videos," he said. "It was a bit of a mad rush to make sure it was safe and no passengers were disrupted and that the possum got back home."

He said the possum was "safely escorted" out of the building by airport staff.

Bloomfield described the possum's visit as a "nice little spike of happiness" during an otherwise normal day at the airport.

Circus performer pulls 2,184-pound carriage with his nipples

A Finnish man used his body piercings to break the Guinness World Record for the heaviest vehicle pulled by the nipples — 2,184 pounds.

The professional circus performer, known as The Baron, had his partner sit in a carriage to bring it up to weight on the set of Guinness World Records' German TV show Die große Show der Weltrekorde in Munich.

He used the piercings on what he described as "the world's strongest nipples" to pull the carriage, breaking the record of 2,179.27 pounds, set by American Sage Werbock, aka "The Great Nippulini."

The Baron previously broke the Guinness World Record for the heaviest weight lifted by the nipples in 2013, when he lifted 71.87 pounds of weight and held it for over 8 seconds.

Driver caught with fake passenger in California carpool lane

March 24 (UPI) — A California driver was pulled over in Los Angeles county when they were seen driving in a carpool lane with an empty jacket as their sole passenger.

The California Highway Patrol's Baldwin Park station said on social media that an officer on Interstate 10 in the West Covina area spotted a vehicle in the carpool lane with a suspiciously insubstantial passenger.

"That 'passenger' turned out to be a jacket carefully wrapped around the front seat with the seat belt fastened across it to resemble a person," the post said. "Nice try — but jackets don't count toward carpool lane requirements."

The CHP stressed that carpool lanes are reserved for vehicles that meet occupancy requirements.

"Fictitious friends and mannequin copilots won't cut it," officials wrote.

Philadelphia airport assembles world's longest line of cheesesteaks

Philadelphia International Airport celebrated National Cheesesteak Day by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest line of cheesesteaks.

Airport eateries from PHL Food & Shops teamed up with the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation to assemble 1,291 cheesesteaks on the concourse between Terminals B and C on Tuesday.

The sandwiches were made from a total 225 pounds of cheese sauce, 990 pounds of shaved beef and 1,291 foot-long rolls.

A Guinness World Records adjudicator was on hand to confirm the snaking line of sandwich was enough to create a new record.

"In 2026, Philly is on a roll literally and figuratively," Kate Sullivan, chief commercial officer for the Department of Aviation, said in a news release. "Cooking and assembling the longest line of cheesesteaks ever will be among many historic moments in Philadelphia this year. Congratulations and thanks to all the cheesesteak restaurants here at PHL that collaborated on this delicious, record-setting accomplishment. And thanks to Guinness World Records for acknowledging this achievement."

Man injured after being caught between fighting cows on Hong Kong hiking trail

67-year-old 'caught in crossfire' of clash near Shing Mun Reservoir as spate of wildlife incidents sparks welfare activists' calls for protection measures

A man has been injured by two fighting cows while hiking near a Hong Kong reservoir.

The 67-year-old reported the incident to police at about 7.30am on Monday after seeing two animals fighting on the MacLehose Trail, near the main dam of Shing Mun Reservoir in the New Territories.

He said he was 'caught in the crossfire' during the chaos and was struck by one of the animals. The man sustained injuries to his fingers and knees and was taken to Yan Chai Hospital in Tsuen Wan.

Man eats at 28 Michelin-star restaurants in New York in 24 hours

A devoted foodie with a healthy appetite broke a Guinness World Record by dining at 28 Michelin-star restaurants in New York in 24 hours.

Las Vegas man Joshua Fyksen visited his first stop, Oxomoco in Brooklyn, on May 9, 2025, and completed his restaurant-hopping journey the following day at Gramercy Tavern in Manhattan.

Fyksen previously broke the record for the most Michelin-starred restaurants visited in 24 hours in 2023, when he hit 22 New York eateries in the allotted time. He later lost the record to Indian foodies Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Rajnish Kumar Tripathi, who visited 25 Michelin-star restaurants in Hong Kong in 2024.

He decided to tackle the challenge again and returned to New York.

"I can't even imagine the total cost — including the trip — or maybe I prefer not to," he told Guinness World Records. "But the food alone cost $976.97, plus tips. Transportation between restaurants was another $474.37."

Fyksen said the food was worth it.

"The highlights for me were the Jonah crab salad with Apple and Wasabi at Le Pavillon, the Scallop Dumpling with English Peas and Foie Gras at Tuome, and the Tortellini Pomodoro at Torissi," he said. "Honestly, there wasn't a single dish I didn't enjoy this time around."

A 12-year-old boy was left dazed after a complete stranger slapped him across the face without warning while he was lining up to buy bread at Pasar Seni recently.

The incident was captured by the store’s CCTV, where it showed the boy being sent flying to the ground due to the force of the slap.
The incident, which was first brought to light by the boy’s brother, later seem to have come to a close after the suspect personally apologised to the boy for the unprovoked assault.

Speaking to NST, the boy said he went to purchase some bread at around 1.35pm, where he walked straight to the counter as there was no queue.

“Suddenly, a man who was looking at the goods on display stepped forward and slapped me. I fell down and my head and ear hurt.
“I then asked the man why he slapped me, and he claimed I had cut the queue,” he recounted.
A police report has since been lodged at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters and the boy is currently waiting for his X-ray results after heading to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.

Meanwhile, police are tracking down the whereabouts of the suspect while they review CCTV footage at the scene, reported Malaysia Gazette.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.

Cafe owner celebrates birthday with 6,044-pound carrot cake

A British Columbia cafe owner celebrated his 80th birthday by baking and assembling a massive carrot cake measuring 17 feet by 17 feet.

Ted Martindale, owner of Granville's Coffee in Quesnel, teamed up with multiple local bakeries to assemble his birthday cake, which contained over 1,760 pounds of carrots, 700 pounds of butter, thousands of eggs and nearly 2,000 pounds of icing.

Martindale said it took over a month to bake the 430 individual cakes that made up the final product.

The cake was served Wednesday at Martindale's birthday party at the local senior's center.

The current Guinness World Record for the largest carrot cake is held by a Surrey, British Columbia, bakery that assembled a 4,574-pound cake in 2016. Martindale said his cake weighed in at about 6,044 pounds, but evidence must still be reviewed by Guinness World Records for him to officially take the record.

Large lizard found napping between pallets of bar fridges

March 26 (UPI) — A snake catcher in Australia was called to a warehouse to capture a big lace monitor lizard found sleeping between pallets.

Daniel May, owner of Narellan Snake Catcher, said he was called out to a warehouse in the Sydney area on a report of a lace monitor, also known as a goanna, sleeping between pallets.

May shared a video showing him removing the large male lizard from between the pallets of bar fridges.

"This big unit had been spotted a few times now and got the order to move on today," he wrote on social media.

Delivery robots smash Chicago bus shelters in two separate incidents

Two delivery robots crashed into two bus shelters in Chicago within a matter of days — and one of the incidents was caught on camera.

The first crash occurred Sunday, when a delivery robot owned by Serve Robotics crashed into a Chicago Transit Authority Grand and Racine bus shelter, shattering the glass.

The crash, which was caught on camera, shows the robot stop and remain in place after causing the glass to shatter.

"We're aware of the incident involving one of our robots in Chicago," a Serve Robots spokesperson told WLS-TV. "No injuries were reported, our team responded quickly to clean up, and we're reviewing what happened to make improvements. We have also been in contact with local stakeholders and are committed to addressing any concerns directly. We take this matter very seriously."

The second crash occurred Tuesday, involving a robot owned by Coco Robotics shattering the glass at a bus shelter near North Avenue and Halsted Street.

Diaper-wearing monkey tries to enter Michigan home

Animal control officers were called to a Michigan home where a diaper-wearing monkey appeared on the porch and attempted to get into the house.

A recording of a dispatcher contacting Saginaw County Animal Care & Control confirmed a 911 call came in about 1 p.m. Wednesday from a St. Charles resident.

"Caller has a monkey wearing a diaper that's on their porch trying to get inside their house," the dispatcher says in the recording. "I guess it belongs to their new neighbors."

Officers arrived to find the female spider monkey, named Brazil, had already been returned to its home next door.

SCACC Director Rachel Horton said officers made contact with the owner and observed Brazil inside the house. She said the monkey appeared healthy, active and well cared-for.

Authorities confirmed Brazil's owner was the same woman who brought a squirrel money into the Bay County Court Facility in 2017. The monkey was inside the woman's purse when she put it through the X-ray scanner.

Michigan does not have any laws prohibiting monkeys as pets. St. Charles does not have any local ordinances limiting primate ownership.

Thieves Steal 12 Tons of Kit Kat Chocolate Bars, Brand Says They ‘Appreciate the Criminals’ Exceptional Taste’

Thieves made off with more than 400,000 Kit Kats in Europe this week.

Nestlé announced in a news release on Friday, March 27, that about 12 tons of Kit Kats — or 413,793 of the chocolate wafer candy bars — were stolen after they left a production site in Italy and were headed to Poland.

"We've always encouraged people to have a break with Kit Kat — but it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate,” a spokesperson for Kit Kat said in the release.
According to Nestlé, the candy bars were headed to a distribution site and set to be distributed throughout Europe at the time of the theft.

The company said that the candy bars could be sold through unofficial channels in Europe, but it will be possible to track the stolen goods by scanning the unique batch code assigned to individual bars, per European news site DW.

Meteorite hunters descend on Ohio county to find space rock fragments

Meteorite hunters have descended on an Ohio county where a massive fireball last week left fragments behind — including one possible fragment in a resident's driveway.

The car-sized asteroid broke up over Northeast Ohio on March 17, and in recent days meteorite hunters have descended on Medina County in the hopes of recovering fragments of rocks from space.

December Harris, a local resident who has been searching for pieces of the meteorite, said a walnut-sized piece may have hit earth surprisingly close to home.

"My cousin came out to get her car to go to work and she found this meteor piece, we believe, right at her car," Harris told WJW-TV.

Case Western Reserve University professor and researcher Ralph Harvey said some pieces that survived reentry might be as large as grapefruits.

Medina 6th grader Evan Waite found a 3-gram meteorite fragment behind Sharon Elementary school. His mother had previously found two smaller pieces.

"It was just a beautiful unexpected moment," mother Ashley Waite said of the moment Evan found his fragment.

Harvey offered some tips for hunters searching for their own fragments.

"If it looks burned up a little on the outside and it's got a different kind of texture or color on the inside and it's in the wrong place, that's where you start going, 'hmm,'" he said.

Local authorities are urging meteorite hunters to be respectful of private property. The Medina County Sheriff's Office said there have been multiple trespassing complaints involving hunters, but no arrests have been made.

Man charged after taking bird into bar and bragging about giving it beer

A man from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, is facing charges of animal cruelty after taking a bird into a bar and bragging about feeding it beer.

On February 21, a bartender at Callaghan’s Bar in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, made a call to police after Timothy Grace brought a parakeet in via his back pocket. An animal in a bar is nothing out of the order, but keeping it in his back pocket was only the start of things.

According to KDKA News, police said that Grace had been “bragging to other people that were inside the bar that he feeds the parakeet marijuana and has it drink beer on a daily basis.”

The 40-year-old claimed to be the owner of the parakeet. The bird has since been taken in by an aviary expert, who revealed that it has a broken leg, as well as respiratory issues.

Grace is facing animal cruelty charges, which is a felony, for his role in causing the bird to have ill health.

He could face prison time and a fine for his treatment of the animal, should the court decide to punish him as such.If found guilty, the 40-year-old will also be unable to keep animals for a yet to be determined period of time in the future.

The bird, who is called Blue Skies, has been recovering with the PEARL Parrot Rescue in Pittsburgh, and has started “breathing right.”

Bottle of wine from 1945 sells for a record-breaking $812,500

A bottle of wine from 1945 became the most expensive bottle of the beverage ever sold at auction when it fetched a price of $812,500.

Auction house Acker said the 750 ml bottle of 1945 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, originally sourced from the personal wine cellar of Robert Drouhin, fetched the record-breaking price at its La Paulée auction during the weekend.

The previous most expensive bottle of wine sold at auction was set at $558,000 in 2018.

"The 1945 Romanée-Conti represents the final vintage produced before Domaine de la Romanée-Conti replanted its oldest vines — grapes that had survived phylloxera, two World Wars and nearly a century of Burgundy history," the auction house said in a news release. "With production extremely limited, surviving bottles have long been considered the pinnacle of wine collecting, with many connoisseurs believing the pre-phylloxera vines add an unmatched depth and complexity to the wine."

Acker Chairman John Kapon said the wine is worth the price.

"I've had the privilege of tasting the 1945 Romanée-Conti just three times in my life, and it is the greatest wine I've ever tasted," he said.

Chesney the kangaroo scales tall fence and flees petting zoo for three days on the lam

How does a kangaroo escape a petting zoo?

It’s not the opening line to a dad joke. If you’re Chesney the kangaroo, you scale an eight-foot (2 1/2 meter) fence and go on the lam for three days, giving your keeper sleepless nights and sending residents of a small Wisconsin town on a search that would end happily on Saturday.

The unprecedented leap at Sunshine Farm in Necedah, Wisconsin, last week was precipitated by some stray dogs that rushed the enclosure and spooked the 16-month-old Chesney, said his keeper, Debbie Marland. She and friends then trekked hither and yon in this town about 160 miles (255 kilometers) northwest of Milwaukee.

They chased reports of sightings and even rented heat-seeking drones, which proved effective in narrowing down the wanderings of the high-jumping adventurer.

“I was putting on about 37,000 steps per day looking for him,” Marland said Sunday. “I haven’t done so much exercise in a very long time.”

Chesney and his roommate Kenny are named for country-music starKenny Chesney. They’re among 25 animals at Sunshine Farm, with horses, sheep, alpacas, Kunekune pigs, Highland cows and a Bactrian camel. The farm is generally open Fridays through Sundays from mid-May through mid-November and tours are offered to visitors who can interact with the animals.

Chesney escaped about 11:15 a.m. last Wednesday. Though he stayed within a three-mile (5-kilometer) radius of the farm, he kept his pursuers guessing.

Colton Johnson, owner of Midwest Aerial Drone Services, has used heat-sensing drones to help hunters recover deer and reunite missing dogs with their owners. Add a kangaroo to the list.

Johnson spent three days trailing Chesney alongside Marland and a team of volunteers. His strategy was similar to the ones he uses to find lost pets, but Johnson said the appearance of Chesney’s heat signature on the drone footage was unique.

“It almost looked like a dinosaur running through the woods,” Johnson said. “It’s got a long tail, and the way it was moving and hopping, that’s the only way that I can describe it.”

The team caught up with Chesney on Wednesday and again Thursday night, but Johnson said the frightened kangaroo slipped away — once by jumping into a cold river — and Johnson lost track on the drone.

According to Marland’s friend, Stacy Brereton, who helps out at the farm routinely, Friday was a tough day. No one had spotted Chesney all day and searchers feared he had wandered farther afield into even more unfamiliar territory, Brereton said.

Then, Friday night, Chesney was discovered nestled under a tree in a wooded area. A group of searchers surrounded him, but ever fleet of foot — 20 mph (32 kph) is no stretch for him — Chesney eluded them.

Marland returned to the area Saturday morning with Chesney’s favorite treats and pieces of material that had his and Kenny’s scent. Other searchers later joined her. But with no sign of the kangaroo, they started packing up. Just then, they spotted the long-eared kangaroo with outsize back legs approaching.

Brereton stepped up with a delicate touch.

“He had a very calm attitude when he walked up, obviously you could tell he wasn’t in fight-or-flight mode, so I just went with that,” Brereton said. “I just stayed calm with him and I just kind of went and sat and let him come to me.”

Chesney heard the voices and wanted attention, said Brereton, who eventually scooped up the 40-pound (18-kilogram) animal.

“I do believe he heard our comforting voices, he smelled the familiar smells of home and it just made him feel safe,” said Brereton, adding, “I’m just glad he loves me as much as I love him.”

Marland said the “the community really did come together” for the kangaroo, who is now something of a celebrity. A Sunshine Farm fan has written a children’s book about Chesney’s adventures, which Marland hopes to publish and sell to recoup some of the search costs.

Kenny, who with his marsupial mate has the run of Marland’s house, was happy to be reunited with Chesney. Though hungry and tired, Chesney was otherwise healthy but will get a checkup with the veterinarian shortly.

20-year-old breaks record for labeling a map of Europe

A 20-year-old geography whiz from China showed off his skills by breaking the Guinness World Record for identifying European countries.

The record-keeping organization said Jonathan Feather Ruggles earned the record for the fastest time to identify and type all European countries on a map using Sporcle by completing the task in just 45.85 seconds.

"I'm not actually sure what my interest spawned from," Ruggles told Guinness World Records, "But I've loved [geography] for a long time, and I've been doing the Sporcle geography quizzes since then too. In middle school, I would also play Hearts of Iron IV, which is a World War II simulator — that got me interested in geography of the whole world and history."

He was inspired to pursue the record after talking with his friend, Buffy Bui, who previously broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to identify and type all of the flags of Oceania using Sporcle.

"Seeing that there were other Sporcle records available, I just thought to myself, I can probably do these," he said, "and tried doing them as quickly as possible!"

Chinese man rescued from ‘zip tie escape challenge’ after delivery man alerts police

A Chinese man who became trapped while taking part in a viral “zip tie escape challenge” at home called for help and was rescued by a passing delivery man.

The case involving the man from Guangzhou in southern China’s Guangdong province was recently reported by the local fire department to raise public awareness.

A delivery man passing by the man’s rented home heard him calling for help and notified the police.

Firefighters arrived, prised open the gate and discovered the man tied up tightly on a bed.

He was wrapped in a cotton quilt, then tied by a fishing net and lastly, tied up by several long zip ties from his neck all the way to his ankles.

Temperatures in Guangzhou have been around 20 degrees Celsius recently.

According to a firefighter, Liu Junjie, the man had done all the restraining himself.

Missouri pet named world's oldest dove at the age of 44

A Missouri man's pet has been officially named the oldest living dove in captivity at the age of 44 years and 72 days.

Guinness World Records said Sugar, a dove belonging to Chesterfield resident Dewayne Orender, 77, surpassed the previous record, which was held by a German dove named Methuselah, by over 15 years.

Doves in captivity typically have a life expectancy of about 20 years.

"He seems very happy and content," Orender told Guinness World Records. "He loves me dearly — he and I are best friends."

Orender has had Sugar since the day he hatched — his parents were previously Orender's pets. He said Sugar had a mate named Rose, but she died of natural causes in 1996.

Orender said Sugar's favorite activity is to sit on the couch with him and watch TV, earning him the nickname "lap dog." He said Sugar will tap his foot when there is music playing.

"I've been in the music business for over 50 years, and he's very much in love with music," he said. "He's even pictured on two of my music videos... You'll see Sugar's picture on his 40th birthday and again on the song 'God's Spotlight,' which I tell him he's part writer because he inspired the song."

Florida man allegedly threatened neighbor with sword during argument

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (TCN) – A man has been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening his neighbor with a sword, according to police.

On March 25, officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded to a residence after receiving a report of a disturbance involving a weapon. The caller told 911 dispatchers that his neighbor had threatened him with a sword and then left in a pickup truck.

A police investigation found that what started as an argument between neighbors escalated when 41-year-old Raul Elosegui Fernandez retrieved a sword with a three-foot metal blade from his truck and made threatening statements to the caller, whose name has not been released by authorities.

After canvassing the area, officers later located Fernandez’s truck with the sword visible inside. Officers took the sword as evidence and arrested and charged Fernandez.

WPEC reports that no one was injured. The investigation is ongoing.

90-year-old athlete holds dead hang position for nearly 3 minutes

A lifelong athlete from Ohio broke a Guinness World Record by holding a dead hang position for nearly 3 minutes at the age of 90.

The record-keeping organization said Ann Crile Esselstyn was 90 years and 231 days old when she held the dead hang position for 2 minutes and 52 seconds. She took the record from Annie Judis, who was 81 years old when she completed the same feat in 2024.

Esselstyn, who has played and coached 10 different sports during her lifetime, started training for her record attempt in February.

"It was new for me to be going for a record, and to be celebrated in this way, since I have spent my life cheering for our four children and 10 grandchildren in their varied athletic events and achievements," Esselstyn told Guinness World Records. "I never ever in 90 years imagined that I would be fortunate enough to have the focused training, support and desire to actually get a Guinness World Records title — [especially] at the age of 90!"

Emergency rescuer in Thailand admits he sexually assaulted actress during a medical episode

On 31 March, a Thai actress shared a harrowing experience where an emergency rescue worker sexually assaulted her while she was suffering a medical episode.

She said that the attack had occurred while she was unable to defend herself. However, she was lucid and fully aware that the person who was supposed to be helping her through a medical emergency was using the opportunity to take advantage of her sexually.

According to Khaosod, the man has since confessed to the act to the police. Authorities have charged him with sexual assault.

A helper turned assaulter

In her Instagram post, 30-year-old Gulasatree “Christine” Michalsky shared her account in both Thai and English.

“While I was in an extremely vulnerable state, unable to move or protect myself, I was sexually assaulted,” she wrote.

On 1 April, she filed a report at the Khlong Tan police station and gave her account of the incident. The actress also wore the same clothing as on the day of the incident.

She said the incident occurred between 2am and 3am on Tuesday (31 March). She told police that the man did not perform CPR on her, but instead molested her.

Loose peacock evades capture in Pennsylvania

Police in Pennsylvania are trying to find the owner of an elusive peacock seen wandering loose in a neighborhood.

The Lower Moreland Police Department said officers responded recently to a report of a peacock on the loose in the area of Frederick Road and Robert Road in Huntingdon Valley.

Police were unable to capture the peacock, but spoke to wildlife experts who said the bird may return home on its own.

"Should any resident see the peacock, please do not attempt to capture as it can/may become aggressive during this time of the year," the department said.

Police said they will continue to monitor the situation and are now attempting to identify the animal's owner.

Orphaned baby chick gets feather duster as a surrogate mom

April 1 (UPI) — Animal rescuers in Iowa shared a photo of an orphaned baby chick being comforted by its new surrogate mother — a feather duster.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa said on social media that the baby chick was brought in by someone who found it wandering alone by the Saylorville Dam.

The chick was taken to ARL's Second Chance Ranch, where the care team set about making it comfortable.

"We set them up in an enclosure with heat lamps and feather dusters to mimic a mama hen, then placed them under the feather dusters. They caught on right away, snuggling in under their 'mom' to get warm," the post said.

A 45‑year‑old factory worker was sentenced by the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol two months ago.

The man admitted that on the night of 7 February, at around 2:30 AM, he was behind the wheel while intoxicated along Jalan Parameswara in Melaka. A breathalyser test later revealed that his blood alcohol concentration was 108mg per 100ml, well above the legal limit of 50mg.

In court, the offence was treated seriously, with the prosecution stressing that driving under the influence is not merely a personal lapse but a dangerous decision that endangers lives. Prosecutors highlighted how such behaviour has led to countless road tragedies and urged the court to impose a firm sentence as a deterrent.

The man, who was unrepresented, once again appealed for leniency, saying he works as a factory employee and requested a lighter punishment. However, the court emphasised accountability and the need to uphold public safety. In addition to the jail term and fine, his driving licence was suspended for two years. Failure to pay the fine would result in a further six months’ imprisonment.

The offence falls under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2000).

Upon conviction, an offender may be sentenced to up to two years’ imprisonment, fined between RM10,000 and RM30,000, and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a minimum of two years from the date of conviction.

North Carolina flight delayed by bee swarm on turbine

An American Airlines plane preparing to depart from a North Carolina airport was delayed for about an hour due to a swam of bees.

Micah McCollough, a passenger aboard the plane at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, captured video as beekeepers and airline employees worked to remove the bees from the plane's turbine.

The video shows the bee rescuers placing the insects into a box for safe transport.

The bees were removed and the plane departed for San Francisco about an hour behind schedule.

A court in the United Kingdom (UK) has ruled that it is “not possible” to identify the father of a child after a woman had sex with identical twins within the same week.

According to MyLondon News, the case arose after the woman and one of the twins challenged the other twin being named as the father.

While judges have since removed parental responsibility from the twin listed on the birth certificate, they said there is still no definitive way to determine the biological father.

Woman had relations with both twins
The court heard that the woman began seeing both twins casually in 2017.

According to the Daily Mail, the twins were unaware that they were involved with the same woman until she became pregnant.

This prompted a series of arguments between the twins, who each said they wanted to become the child’s father.
Both men had slept with her within a short window of less than a week, when conception was likely to have occurred.

As they are identical twins, DNA testing could not distinguish between them, indicating that either could be the father.

The woman later remained in contact with one of the twins, who was subsequently named as the father on the birth certificate.

Dispute escalates to court
The relationship later deteriorated, leading to legal proceedings over custody and parental responsibility.
When the case was heard in 2024, the court was unable to determine which twin was the father.

The judge noted that both men had pursued parental recognition at significant financial cost, straining their previously close relationship.

Passenger gives birth aboard flight from Jamaica to New York

Caribbean Airlines confirmed a passenger on a flight from Jamaica to New York gave birth just as the flight was landing at John F. Kennedy Airport.

The airline issued a news release confirming the incident aboard Flight BW005 on April 4.

Audio of the conversation between the pilot and a ground control operator was obtained by CBS News. The ground control worker asks if the baby has already been born, and the pilot confirms it has.

"All right, tell her she's got to name it Kennedy," the ground control operator says.

The airline said medical personnel attended to the woman and newborn as soon as the plane landed.

"The airline commends the professionalism and measured response of its crew, who managed the situation in accordance with established procedures, ensuring the safety and comfort of all onboard," the news release said. "Caribbean Airlines also confirms that no emergency was declared during the flight."

Two possible waterspouts caught on camera in Boston

A Boston-area man taking a walk near Castle Island captured video when he spotted a pair of unusual vortexes off the coast that may have been waterspouts.

Walpole resident Michael Bianculli said he was walking around Pleasure Bay on Tuesday morning when he spotted the phenomenon near the DCR Murphy Memorial Rink.

His video shows the twin vortexes traveling across the water toward him.

"That's kind of wild. Is that a waterspout?" Bianculli asks in the video.

Meteorologists said the vortexes would have to reach the base of the clouds to be classified as true waterspouts.

"The spout seemed to go a lot higher than a few feet but not sure if it went all the way to the clouds," Bianculli said in an email to WCVB-TV.

A.J. Burnett, a meteorologist for WCVB, said the twin formations in Bianculli's video are unusual.

"What makes these waterspouts even more unique is that the closer waterspout seems to be rotating clockwise, which is opposite most funnels, spouts and tornadoes," Burnett said.

Australian climbs Pattaya balcony after dispute with Thai partner

An Australian man was rescued after hanging from a third-floor hotel balcony in Pattaya, yesterday, April 4, after a domestic dispute led to what police described as another apparent bid for attention.

Police and tourist officers responded to reports that a foreign man was threatening to jump from a hotel in Soi Buakhao. They found the 59 year old Australian hanging outside a third-floor balcony of the four-storey building.

Hotel staff and police attempted to persuade him to return inside. He initially appeared to cooperate and tried to climb back into the room, but hesitated upon seeing officers and attempted to drop again. Officers then pulled him to safety.
Investigators said the man had been climbing in and out of the balcony since around 8am. The behaviour was believed to be linked to a dispute with his Thai transgender partner, who had left the room earlier that morning.

According to police, the man climbed onto the balcony in an attempt to get his partner’s attention after becoming upset when the partner left the room.

DailyNews reported that immigration officials in Chon Buri are now preparing to deport the man, citing repeated similar behaviour in the past.

Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation rushed to the scene after receiving reports. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the man lying on the ground in a disoriented state.

He appeared dazed, with glazed eyes and incoherent speech, and complained of chest tightness and severe pain in both legs. First aid was administered before he was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Arkansas woman runs half marathon while wearing 55 T-shirts

An Arkansas athlete donned 55 T-shirts and ran a half marathon to break a Guinness World Record and celebrate her weight loss journey.

Meredith Smith ran the Fort Smith Half Marathon on March 30, 2025, while wearing her 55 layers of shirts, and Guinness World Records has now confirmed she earned the title for the most T-shirts worn during a half marathon (female).

Smith finished with a time of under 3 hours and 30 minutes.

"Completing a running record was particularly special to me, as I would not have thought it possible when I began running in 2013 as a way to lose weight," Smith told Guinness World Records. "Trying to set this record by adding weight back on to my body via T-shirts was like stepping back into my own shoes to physically see how far I've come."

A puzzled witness in Missouri captured footage of a rather sizeable disc-shaped object they spotted hovering in the sky in broad daylight. The intriguing sighting, shared with the National UFO Reporting Center, occurred on March 31st in the community of Arnold. According to the witness, they first spotted and then watched the weird white flying saucer from their front porch for around 30 minutes before heading into the house. When they ventured back outside, there was no sign of the odd object that they estimated to be around 100 yards long.

Fortunately, the witness managed to capture some of the curious sighting with their cell phone. As seen in the video and noted in their report, the odd UFO appears to sport "a light going back and forth" that made it look like the cylindrical anomaly "was spinning" or possibly had some kind of reflective surface. Mysterious barge floats Michigan river, strikes two bridges

A barge was spotted floating down a Michigan river and collided with at least two bridges, but its purpose and origins remain a mystery.

Witnesses told WWMT-TV the barge — a large, flat wooden surface floating atop blue barrels — apparently began its Kalamazoo River journey upstream of the Angell Street Bridge in Battle Creek, where it struck the structure before passing underneath and eventually striking the 20th Street Bridge.

The barge, which was first spotted Monday, has remained at the second bridge, where it is now moored with a green strap.

John Konner, who captured photos of the floating object, theorized it may have originated from an upstream construction site, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Konner's photos show the barge was covered in plastic when it struck the first bridge, but is has since lost its covering.

The City of Battle Creek said it is aware of the situation, but has not revealed any answers.

China woman, 89, climbs from 27th to 21st floor of building to escape locked bedroom goes viral

A brave 89-year-old grandmother climbed from the 27th to the 21st floor on her building’s outer wall after accidentally locking herself in, shocking many people online.

The woman in Beijing was spotted stuck outside a residential building’s 26th floor on an afternoon on April 1.

A cleaner and a security guard heard her faint sounds from downstairs, looked up and saw her grabbing tightly to the rails that protect air conditioners on the outer wall.
They immediately called the police and shouted to her to stay put and wait to be rescued.

She continued climbing down when the firefighters were on their way.

The exhausted woman eventually stopped at 21st floor, which was about 50 metres above the ground.

The firefighters had to rescue her from inside the building as it was not safe for them to also get onto the rails.

They first attached a safety rope to her then they cut part of the rails, so that she could sit on the platform of an air conditioner and rest.
They also gave her a jacket and water.

They discovered that the 89-year-old lives alone on the 27th floor. She accidentally locked herself in the bedroom and left her mobile phone in the living room.

The anxious woman then made the extremely dangerous decision to climb down along the air conditioner units’ rails.

She said she had planned to climb all the way down to the first floor.
After she rested for 20 minutes, the firefighters made a bridge between the platform and the window of a 21st-floor flat with a stretcher and leaned out to carefully move the woman inside.

She was uninjured except for feeling exhausted and frightened.

Both the woman and her family, who rushed to the scene, thanked the firefighters.

The woman’s adventure went viral online, receiving over 4 million views on a social media platform.

Many paid respect to her outstanding physical strength and willpower, nicknaming her “super grandma” and “Alex Honnold’s grandma version”.

Honnold is a famous free solo climber who recently scaled the 508m Taipei 101 skyscraper without ropes or safety gear.

Texas family reunited with missing cat after 5 years

A Texas cat who had been missing for five years was reunited with her family thanks to the information on her microchip.

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter said the feline was brought to the facility in late March and scanned for a microchip, which revealed her owners' information.

"My wife got an email saying the chip had been found, and then I got a text as well. That's when we checked the Williamson County lost and found page and saw her," owner Angelique Wethereit told KTBC-TV. "It still doesn't feel real. I'm still in shock."

Shelter officials were shocked to learn the pet, named KitKat, had been missing for five years.

"I've been doing this since 2013, and I have never seen a reunion after five years. That is incredible," shelter employee Leo Delgado said.

Delgado said KitKat appeared to be in good health.

"She was in good spirits, very friendly to the staff, and cuddled up to us right away — of course, she was so happy to see her mom," Delgado said.

Man Feuding with Neighbor Torments Him by Playing Ghost Sounds for Hours Every Day

Locked in a bitter feud with his neighbor, a Chinese man came up with a rather spooky scheme to get under his skin: tormenting him with ghostly sounds that he played for hours every day. According to a local media report, the bizarre dispute came to light last week when a court was compelled to intervene in the strange case. Although it is uncertain what initially sparked the feud between the two neighbors, identified by their surnames Lu and Xie, what is known is that the rivalry escalated to the point that the showdown took a particularly weird turn toward the paranormal.

Determined to win the war with his neighbor, Lu strategically placed a stereo speaker against their shared wall and played ghostly sounds for around four hours every morning, followed by another six hours in the late afternoon and evening. Unfortunately, caught in the crossfire of the daily barrage of spooky audio was another resident of the building, identified as Cui. From his apartment two floors away from the feuding neighbors, the man was also forced to endure the ghostly sounds until he finally grew so fed up that he reported the situation to the police.

Alas, a subsequent investigation by authorities found that Lu had been cleverly playing the audio with the speaker pressed against the wall, but at a level considerably lower than the legal noise threshold. While the technique initially allowed the man to evade any legal trouble, Cui eventually argued that deliberately playing the ghost sounds for ten hours a day constituted a purposeful disturbance to his life, regardless of the volume. A court overseeing the case agreed with his assessment, and Lu was ordered to put an end to the proverbial paranormal party by ceasing the daily 'broadcasts' and dismantling the equipment he used for them.

Central American rodent found wandering in Poland

A woman jogging in Rybnik, Poland, contacted authorities when she spotted an agouti — a Central American rodent resembling a large guinea pig.

Rybnik Forestry officials said the woman called authorities in late March to report spotting the agouti in a wooded area.

"I've heard all kinds of unusual reports from callers, but then she sent a photo," Rybnik Forestry spokesperson Kacper Paturej told Radio 90.

Paturej said initial capture efforts had to be called off when the cat-sized agouti became aggressive.

The animal was later wrangled by experts from a wildlife rehabilitation center. Paturej said the agouti is currently being cared for at the center.

The rodent is believed to have escaped from a local private enclosure.

University breaks world record with 682 people in dinosaur costumes

An Alberta university broke a Guinness World Record by gathering 682 people in dinosaur costumes at the school's 60th anniversary celebration.

The University of Calgary, whose sports teams are known as the Dinos, gathered people dressed as various dinosaurs Saturday outside the Taylor Family Digital Library.

The gathering of 682 dinos broke the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as dinosaurs, which was previously set by 468 people at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium in West Palm Beach, Fla., last year.

"The old record is extinct," Ed McCauley, UCalgary's president and vice-chancellor, was quoted as saying by the Calgary Herald. "This is just a great example of the University of Calgary and our Calgary community coming together to set a world record."

A Guinness World Records adjudicator was on hand to verify the record had officially been broken.

American Tourist Credited with First Official Loch Ness Monster Sighting of 2026

An American tourist at Loch Ness has been credited with the first official 'monster' sighting of the year after spotting a sizeable anomaly that emerged from the water near his boat. The rather remarkable close encounter with the creature occurred on the morning of March 1st as Tony Inhorn was visiting the iconic Scottish site from the United States. Sharing his account with the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, he explained that "near the opening for the Caledonian Canal, I saw the dark-greenish gray body of what appeared to be Nessie emerge from the water."

Amazingly, the incredibly fortunate witness indicated that the creature "was about 15 feet from the boat I was on," which allowed for a fairly clear view of the 'monster.' To that end, Inhorn theorized," based on its movement and proportions," that he observed either the back or side of the suspected Nessie "at a 45 degree angle." During the approximately five-second-long sighting, the witness recalled, the creature "came about two feet out of the water, "seemingly showing 5 to 10 feet of its body, before ultimately submerging back into the murky waters of Loch Ness.

Looking back on the sighting, Inhorn noted that the suspected Nessie "emerged against the chop of the surf, but appeared clearly defined against the waves, leading me to believe it wasn't just the current." It was that suspicion that compelled him to share his story and a sketch of the creature (seen here) with the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register. Finding Inhorn's account to be credible, the organization subsequently recognized the March 1st encounter as the first official sighting of the year.

Bioluminescent fireworms glow in the California water

A California photographer captured rare video of bioluminescent fireworms putting on a glowing display in the Long Beach water.

Patrick Coyne said he recorded the video at about 8 p.m. Thursday in the Colorado Lagoon.

Experts said it was only the second time bioluminescent fireworms have been caught on camera in Long Beach.

The worms rise to the surface during certain moon phases and the females swim in circles, illuminating a mucus trail to attract males.

The light show only lasts for about 30 minutes before the worms return to the seabed.

Overnight Workers Report Bigfoot Sighting in West Virginia

A pair of overnight workers in West Virginia were understandably terrified when they spotted a sizeable figure that they suspect was Sasquatch walking just a few hundred feet away from their job site. The unsettling sighting, reported to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) by the girlfriend of one of the witnesses, occurred at around 1:30 AM last Thursday in the community of Tabler Station. While loading railroad cars at an industrial plant, the two workers were stunned when they "looked off in the distance at a building that had a light source" and noticed a monstrous interloper that had them doing a double-take.

Specifically, from a distance of around 400 feet, the men said they saw an "approximately 8-foot-tall walking creature" pass beneath the light and vanish into the darkness. The "huge" bipedal figure, which the witness was certain was not a bear nor a person, was described as being "blacker than black" and taking "long strides" as it moved. Alas, because they were working at the time, the pair did not have the chance to follow up on the sighting in the moment it occurred. That said, they may have been happy about that as a follow-up investigation by the BFRO found that the massive figure "scared the daylights out of both witnesses." Interestingly, since the sighting occurred near a newly built warehouse, it is believed that the creature could have been caught on camera. Told my 5 year old we can order pizza for his birthday dinner and that he can choose anything he wants because it’s his birthday and this was what he wanted. Pizza with nothing but barbecue sauce - no cheese, no toppings, nothing just a base with sauce and if I knew this in advance, I’d of brought a plain pizza base from the supermarket and put sauce on it, could have saved a few quid lol

101-year-old New Zealand man named world's oldest croquet player

A New Zealand man who took up the game of croquet at the age of 79 was named the world's oldest player by Guinness World Records at 101.

The record-keeping organization said Neville Sandiford was 101 years and 262 days old when he participated in an 80+ Golf Croquet tournament in Paraparaumu, Wellington, in August 2025.

His participation in the event earned him the Guinness World Record for the oldest competitive croquet player (male).

Sandiford, who has three children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, said he took up croquet at the age of 79 at the urging of his wife, Joan.

"[She] read an advertisement in the newspaper that the Wellington club was giving free lessons," he told Guinness World Records. "So we went along. As soon as I took hold of a mallet and hit one ball I knew that was for me. The game we played was Association Croquet and I found myself winning club competitions right from the very first year."

Sandiford joined the Paraparaumu Croquet Club and started playing in tournaments for both Association Croquet and Golf Croquet.

"I remember when I started out as a new player, there was so much to learn — how to hold the mallet, how to strike the ball, and all the rules connected with the two codes. And even at that time, as a junior, I was very competitive and needed to see myself improving," he said.

"It was due to the endless support and encouragement of the club members that kept me going. Without that I wouldn't have got so much enjoyment from the sport, and I definitely wouldn't be celebrating this achievement."

'Project Hail Mary' trailer stunt earns Guinness World Record

Project Hail Mary has earned a Guinness World Record following its publicity stunt in space.

Sony announced Thursday that the movie was awarded the Guinness World Records title for Highest Altitude IMAX Film Trailer after broadcasting the film's trailer in space.

In a partnership with the space agency Sent Into Space, the Project Hail Mary trailer was shown March 14 on a scale replica IMAX screen 101,896 feet above Earth.

Sent Into Space previously said its team built a carbon-fiber launch vehicle to launch the screen, which was built to operate in the sub-zero temperatures of space.

"After a lovely spot of sunbathing at the launch site, we completed our pre-flight checks and sent the craft on its merry way into the far reaches of the upper stratosphere. Here, we remotely activated the IMAX movie screen and aired the Project Hail Mary trailer against the blackness of space, the curvature of the Earth and the thin blue line of its atmosphere!" the company said.

'Goose on the loose' wrangled in Connecticut

April 14 (UPI) — Animal control officials in Connecticut are trying to find the owner of a "goose on the loose" found in Orange.

Milford Animal Control said on social media that the goose was found by an Orange woman who is keeping the avian safe and healthy until its owner can be found.

Canada geese are native to Connecticut, but the domesticated goose found in orange appears to be a Toulouse goose, a breed originating from France.

They are not found in the wild in New England, but are often sold commercially due to their large size and docile temperament.

Animal control is asking anyone with information on the goose's origins to contact officials.
